Ok, so I knew it was going to be bad, but it was meant to be a bit dire here yesterday and we had blue skies and high temperatures, so complacancy (sp) set in.

Went to feed the horses and found No Longer Skinny Minnie shivering. Not much, and not all the time, but shivering. And it was freezing up there. I forgot it is usually ten times worse up there than it is at home :(

Because of the wind I couldn't catch her to put her rug on, and as I feed off the ground and the hay was blowing all over I decided to open up the stable (hay store) and let No Longer Skinny Minnie and Fat Lad help themselves. I am hoping that two of them in there, plus the hay will create a lovely warm atmosphere in which she can dry out and get warm.

I feel really really bad. I should have kept a better eye on the weather forecast :(

They do also have a field shelter, but don't go in it often. It is actually relatively mild out of the rain and the bitter wind, so hopefully she will be fine. She will be fine, won't she?

:( :( :( :( :(

My daemonic 2 year old was shivering this morning, so he's been moved in to share with Fergs in the dry. It's been horrific today :(

She'll be absolutely fine don't worry :)

Don't beat yourself up. We've all been caught out at one point or another. That's the joy of the Great British weather :D

Don't be too hard on yourself.

Mine were fine this morning, and I went down again about 2 hours ago to find them all cold and miserable, I've rugged them accordingly now, and they've had a feed....once yours start munching, they will start to get warm again. AND....this is due to blow over early evening, and the wind will drop.

One bad day won't kill them, it's not like you put them through it everyday.

:)

I feel so bad, but am so used to Fat Lad (Highland) being out in all weathers rugless and fine, I forgot :( Lesson learnt, it won't happen again anyway.

The two of them in a 12 x 12 stable with 10 bales in accross the back wall should get her dry and warm. They squeeze in together when Fat Lad undoes the door, and they seem to be quite happy crammed in like that as long as they can eat :)

OH will come up with me later and we will see if we can catch her and keep her calm enough to get her rug on.

The daemon is a highland too, hence why I was shocked to see him shivering. Mind you, he's finally lost his winter coat and been rewarded with a thorough drenching :( It's rubbish, but we're not mind readers and we're not perfect - one mistake isn't the end of the world, I'm sure she'll be fine now :)

Our 2 were both cold this morning too:( They are in thicker rugs (did have lightweights on) and they have a shelter which they go in to eat the hay but this is the first time they have both been cold. We have given them extra haylage which they do not need to make ourselves feel better.

That sounds like pony heaven to me. All that food  She'll be over the moon I should think.

Like JFTD says, it's the fact they've all cast their coats that is the problem. Nits was naked all winter and was completely fine but this wind and rain on a practically naked TB is just too much!

I did too and am feeling awful for leaving my TB out. Have done a post as I'm not sure if I should go and drag him in later (40 mile round trip :eek) or leave him out :(

I'll prob go down in a hour or so & find Big Fuzzy has trashed rug as due to the low temp I put the HW rug on for her to go out into 20x40 playpen with field shelter  she'll prob be too warm...:o

For the 1st time, I've actually been glad she's been on box rest/limited turnout - having watched next door's 3 hoolying around to warm up & tearing what is left of their 3 acres into a mudcovered skid-pan!

Am just hoping that lovely livery's Giant Fuzzy is coping out in all this today

Don't beat yourself up - we all do it!

We had sunny skies yesterday morning, and the forecast was to stay dry all day, so I chucked mine out naked first thing so he could have a good roll. By the time I'd mucked out there were horrible big black clouds and fat drops starting to fall, so I trekked back out to rug him in the field.

Not that he cared. He was standing in muddy water to over his fetlocks, so he could reach the best grass.

My TB was out naked yesterday as as she refused to be caught and I couldn't get her rug on her. So I spent all last evening worrying and obsessively checking the forecast! Off to the yard now and fingers crossed she has calmed down and I can get her in. Have decided to train her to come when called though, not going through that palaver again!
