I swore i'd never watch this narrated version of Black Beauty again, when it first came out all those years ago i was talked into taking my nephew and niece to see it in the cinema
now i come from a military/ farming gene pool so we're all stiff upper lip/ chicken stranglers so i can keep it together pretty well.... or so i thought
oh my god what is wrong with these film makers? i managed to just about keep it together by gulping a lot, i got thru Ginger dying( gulp) overloaded coal wagon( bigger gulp) getting sold( sniveling now) and then there he is near the end all dirty and ribby and calling to blind, stupid Joe... '' it's me Joe, Joe'' and that was me finished! blahhhh, sob, sob, ! i looked around and all the kids and grown ups were all crying and wailing, i bloody well almost missed the end where he's all fat and happy under the tree and when we all filed out the next batch were waiting to go in, what a sight we all were and the look on their faces was priceless , sheer horror!

so there i was again today, clutching my dog like a pillow and dripping tears onto him, so, am i a sad , desperate softy or do horsey films make you cryl too?

Thats exactly why I didn't watch it!! Even worse as our ISH looks very much like Ginger!! Never seen Warhorse as I know I'd cry buckets+Seabiscuit also sets me off snivelling!!

Yes I enjoy this version too......... even though it is quite obviously American in its setting, which is a bit of an irritating distraction considering Anna Sewell based it in England!!!

But it is reasonably accurate to the original book; unlike the TV series in the 1970's which we all sat down to watch at Sunday teatime!!! Oh gosh, the memories............

I can watch Warhorse without any tears but can't even watch the opening scenes from Black Beauty without blubbering so have not actually watched the film!

I love that Black Beauty film I think what makes it is the fact the horse is telling his story, it just makes it so much more sad to watch and the ending is heartbreaking.

ARGH!!!!

... The bit at the end where he calls to Joe at the sale .....

"Sniff, sniff"

.... Not even been to see Warhorse .... i blabbed at the trailer, can't begin to imagine what the actual film must be like .....

Interestingly, although I have seen Warhorse (film) twice and not even felt a tear brewing, I have seen a live cinema performance (we were at the cinema, stage show in London and we saw it live on the big screen) and I found that much more moving. I am actually going to see the stage show live in Feb and I expect a few tears, although I think it's not just the horse's situation in that instance but the whole horror of the trenches.

Not horse related, but I'm going to see The Hobbit this week, and I think I'll be crying like a baby at the end credits because I can't cope with the fact there there will be no more Middle Earth films made and Billy Boyd's singing is so lovely!!

ah...woman...watch something decent like the first few seasons of Walking Dead, the grudge, Silence of the lams, anything but those horrible horrible movies where animals die.....couldn't watch them 30 years ago, still can't !

I will NEVER see warhorse, been on tv here now for the first time 2 months ago, made very sure to avoid it !

I can't watch anything horsey related or I end up having cried myself out so bad I'm heaving and gasping like an idiot, I sat in the cinema toilets for a good 20 mins after just so I could regain my senses! I saw Apasionata a couple of years ago too, all was well until the lights dimmed and the grey stallion came out by himself at a canter with the music all quiet and matching his movements and oh god the floodgates were open and I have goosebumps writing this!!

Remember sobbing through the book as a child. I recall it as beautifully written. May have to pay it a revisit, if I can stand the sadness.

Now I find lassie come home worst.....that bit where the boys kick the little dog to death! I NEVER watch it because I cry so much!
My Dad sobbed all the way through the warhorse stage show! Not seen it myself, although Les Mis gets me every time !!!

Black beauty, Marley and me (the book) and war horse all big blubbers for me.
Watching War Horse is the theatre don't think there was a dry eye in the house. Sitting next to me was a large tough looking bloke, who was completely sobbing uncontrollably! Set me off worse!

I cry almost the entire way through I don't know why the heck I have to watch it!

I've not seen it but think crying would be inevitable!

-Marley and me as soon as he says you're getting old/ time is catching up or whatever it is, I'm gone and don't stop crying til the end.

-War Horse saw at the cinema and cried for most of it, was fortunately with a group of other crying horsey people, rest of cinema just sat there!

-Seabiscuit has been known to make me cry.

non horsey films to make me cry:

-Toy story 3- yes really! When they go to their new home and he's listing why each is special

-The Other One

-first time round I cried in the cinema at Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows part 2 when he sees his family again

As you can see it doesn't take a lot there are plenty more but that's all I can remember atm.

Warhorse the book had me in bits, but I coped ok with the film. It's telling the story from the horses point of view that's the killer - the film didn't use this perspective so I thought that a lot of the emotion was lost. I can't watch any part of Black Beauty, even the happy bits!
Thinking about what the horses went through during the war just makes me sob. I've seen old black and white pics of them being hauled onto ships on ropes cos they were too frightened to walk on themselves (major lump in throat right now!).
