Gah! I have seen two youngsters i like (3 year olds this year). They are knabstrupper's with good breeding, one will make 15.3hh and the other 17hh.... i am seriously considering putting an offer on one of them as i realy do like them. However, i cant really can i? Im breeding dee this year so potentially coud have 3 horses........gah! Someone discourrage me please!

Its a lovely colour isnt it ;) :)
Its got good conformation and i like the dam. Ill go and see it in a few months time. Im not looking to buy another horse, i have Delicia and hopefully one on the way soon, but this one has caught my eye. :)

LOL Sheep, but it uses its head as the 3rd leg :)

Its by the Halfdan Stud. Its full brother was the champion 4 year old stallion at the grading and is due to be licensed.
 
I can afford it, im not really looking for another horse but have been watching this one. I am really fussy when it comes to buying horses and this is the 1st youngster for a while i would part money for. But, no rush :). We will see how it fairs this spring. My priority has to be getting dee in foal first :)

Good stud, is Heimdal the sire? Alternatively, you could put your mare to him and breed your own!
 
My mare is going to spider this year :) (and maybe next year if breeds a good foal :D )

I've been umming and ahhing about getting a 2-3 year old....i do like youngsters but no rush :)
 
I will discourage you. This will cost the earth. You will have livery for Dee, ongoing medical treatment for Dee (apologies if I misremember but I thought her problems were ongoing. I assume they are non-hereditary and won't be worsened by a pregnancy though), then livery charges for the foal, livery/breaking/professional schooling for the youngster and during all this you won't be getting any riding for your money. Realistically you will be paying for 3 horses and you won't get to sit on one for another 2-3 years.

That is the best case scenario assuming you will enjoy sitting on a very green 4 year old. Alternatively you will need to pay and wait for another couple of years while the 4 year old turns into a more sensible and experienced 6 year old.

Agree with this ^^

Made the same mistake myself. But i was lucky to have my daughters pony/horse to bounce on. Really missed getting out and about on my own though.

Why not invest in a 4 YO, which you can bring on while your baby is cooking.

Agreed. To be honest if you are going to get another horse I'd get something that you could crack on now with. Or you will have 3 horses (hopefully!) and you won't have one to ride!

I'm excited about your spider baby though! Fingers crossed for you :)
 
I like it.... but.... realistically...

You will of just started seeing progress and getting somewhere when it turns 6/7 but Dee's first foal will be ready to crack one with by then... I would of thought a 4/5 year old is better, you can actually be progressing and being able to enjoy the riding and competing while Dee cooks her baby and this time next year hopefully you will be starting a long journey with that one.... otherwise you are just spending two years watching horses eat your money with no real gain...
 
Thank you Booboo etc. Delicia is actually gettin better but will forever be a management issue ( ha her assessed as fine for pregnancy :) ). It's a lovely youngster and I do really like it. But I think right now is the wrong time. My priority is getting delicia in foal. :)
 
Delicious D, I am in a similar boat, accidentally saw a lovely youngster yesterday opps!
He's lovely and so is the one you have spotted.
