I was just having a general chit chat with a lady today . She is an organiser of a show that is held every year not far from the yard, I asked her if I could have a schedule as I would like to take my 5yr old who has never been to a show & as it's a big, but local show it would be good place to go. Anyway I said I only want to do couple of clear rounds & possibly an in hand class. She suggested maybe doing part bred M&M as we think he has NF in him, but what annoyed me is that she said to me I doubt he would get placed at all anyway :(. I am not fussed if he gets placed as it's all experience, but I just feel the comment was abit unfair. Sorry just had to get that moan out :p

Look at that innocent face :)

It's possible that as the organiser, she might have felt that you'd be expecting your horse to be placed as you were talking to her about it & she wanted to make it clear that that wouldn't happen?

Not saying that you were expecting it...but she might have had problems from people she knows before & thought thus was the best way to deal with it

Or she could just be a bit of a cow of course ;)

Showing is all a matter of opinion anyway. Ignore her, she sounds rude and stupid.

And this is what I think is so wrong - it is the same with showing any animals. All judges have a 'type' that they like, which is fine, but what is to say that the type they like is the best type?

I think your boy looks lovely.

Ps And I may be wrong :( !! Are his feet a bit flat??

Sorry , just maybe the photos !!

no he doesn't have flat feet, i did take pic on my phone.

I no we all entitled to our opinions which is fine, but I just felt there was no need for the comment specialy as I only want to take him for the experience. My main thing is jumping anyway :D

Some people really operate their mouth before their brain is in gear...............& many of these seem to be 'horsey' people. Really it's better that they keep their mouths closed & let people think they're an idiot rather than open their mouths & dispel all doubt. :( Go along to the show & enjoy yourself. If she's an organiser then she's likely to be busy doing other things rather than judging anyway. :)

Agreed on all counts with this last reply...my god, let the poor thing be and stop passing judgement when not even in the ring. Go for it and have fun!;)

What part of wanting to give him experience was so confusing for her I wonder? Sheesh...she would hate me! I'm planning on taking Hippo to a show despite her icky looking lump:pJust fancy having a bit of fun with my horse and Hippo loves attention!

Hope you have a great time OP!

I agree he would defo be in the running for handsomest gelding! He is lovely! Perhaps the lady was hoping to persuade you to let her take him off your hands ;-)

She could clearly see that your lovely gelding would run away with all of the prizes and wanted to put you off completely :D

You attend whatever show you choose and don't let those coments put you off.

Shows are supposed to be enjoyable.

let us know how you get on if you do enter one.

He is lovely and that is definitely a New Forest head. Please ignore the unasked for opinions on his feet as well...:rolleyes:

Yeah I am positive he has NF in him. I am ignoring the comments about his feet as there is nothing wrong with them & my farrier has never mentioned them. :)

i think there may be a large market for a t-shirt that says
"than you for sharing your opinion - i dint believe i asked for it"

I would certainly buy one :D

Ignore them! I once got asked at a show if I had "come to provide the entertainment" next week different judges and he was placed top 3 in every class. Different judges look for different things and it is supposed to be fun anyway.

Whether she thinks he is likely to get placed or not is not something she should be expressing, if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! I think that is quite rude and uncalled for really, sounds like she was trying to put you off. Your choice at the end of the day you are going for experience which will be great for both of you.

How does she know he won't get placed? Is she doing the judging?!
