Icy cold weekend plans

Just started my weekend with a run. The rest of my plans are weather permitting. A meeting we were supposed to have has been postponed due to possible bad weather and people travelling long distances, so tomorrow a few of us from the yard are hoping to go to a local unaffiliated SJ, it's in the afternoon so I'll be scrubbing in the morning. My brave pants got temporarily misplaced after I said I'd jump the 90s,I've dug them back out now so just hoping I remember them tomorrow. Our RC is having a bit of a get-together in the evening, so we can all meet.

Sunday will be another trip down the country to visit our Trec champs venue.

I'm supposed to be doing Bobbies first competition on Sunday but no idea if it will go ahead or not. The snow has gone from near me now but the event is 30 miles away and a bit more rural so not sure what its like there. I'm beginning to regret entering now. the even itself is indoor but I suspect it will be a whole day of very over excited ponies and freezing drivers!

I went to a dressage to music evening last night and am raring to go. I had a floor plan and music for Bisto but we never got out to compete so I am so excited about the prospect of doing it on Rose. Snowed overnight so my ridden plans got cancelled for today but I spent time looking at the music I had for Bisto to see if it might suit Rose...It doesn't! I could use the floor plan but it's not ideal either. I had a lesson booked for today (polework) which was cancelled and I was hoping to have a flat work one tomorrow but depends on the weather, fingers crossed. Rose has had a week off now but she has worked very hard since coming to me so the break will probably do her good. Roll on better weather!

We were supposed to be doing a couple of Quest tests but it unfortunately got cancelled. I’m not overly fussed if I’m honest, I wasn’t looking forward to towing in the snow / ice, and at least this way I can move my tests to a couple of weeks time rather than withdraw if the weather is too bad.

Good luck to everyone that is going out, stay safe!

Hubby and I have decided that discretion is the better part of valour, so we aren't going to risk going out early tomorrow morning. I've found another WH show with similar classes on Sunday afternoon so will have all morning to make ponies beautiful...

Off to Newark tomorrow sans horses for a day's Hooves and Hoof Care course, run by an equine podiatrist. I'm very much looking forward to it. It requires a 6am leave, so had everything left ready for neds to be out and for OH to chuck them extra hay during the day. Then found out earlier this evening that the hunt may be about tomorrow, frost and ice permitting, which threw my plans into chaos, grr. OH isn't horsey so I wouldn't expect him to get them in.

Am now sorted if meet is on with help from friendly neighbours, so neds won't have to stand in from sparrow fart. Stables are prepped ready with hay and water in place if needed, but more notice of the meet would have been good.

No dressage for us today due to the weather, just a bit of headcollar modelling in the snow!

Millie’s been bouncing all week but it’s been too icy to do anything. Big thaw is underway now so I was able to get her out for a 25 minute hack around the fields. She was fresh but manage to contain herself, aside from a bit of jogging and head flinging. Fair bit of sight-seeing too but that’s just Millie.
It was so nice to be back on board.

I managed to drive today in the end. Bobbie was utterly amazing until the last 5mins when some strange horses went by and she went into meltdown. Shes reached the point where shes feeling pretty confident in her surroundings and her job now so she thought she would see what happened if she started being a prat. She discovered it meant a very angry lady and more work :D It was amazing fun driving in the snow though!

The competition is on tomorrow so will be interesting to see if her little pony brains come leaking out of her ears or if she is her usual charming and well behaved self. Watch this space!

Rosie - that is some serious flooooooff!

Managed a quick hack across the fields today. Not too bad as snow was soft and patchy. But other side of the yard (access road) is iced up and the forecast doesn’t looks good, so no dressage for me tmrw 😞

In real life I have no luck with anything, today was one of the days....my new box broke down on the way home!!! Had to get it towed to the yard 😅 I can only laugh otherwise I'd be in a pit of despair. Hopefully be able to get a mechanic out this week, looks like a slave cylinder (which also looks expensive 🙄) so now I have 2 boxes and can't drive either (old one is for sale and don't really want to take it out too much).

It's like 2017 when I had two horses but couldn't ride either as they were both lame ...😑

Haha I know, it was her Christmas present from dad as he said it will help pad her head as it's only small:rolleyes::p

shame about dressage being cancelled, same over this end and no fun. I wanted to go out to play :(

Oh wow that is some serious crappy luck. Sorry about that. Hope it’s not too bad to fix.

What a pain. The slave cylinder went on mine, on the motorway, with a new horse in the back. It wasn’t a fun experience!

Oh god! What a nightmare. Think I'm just going to get the while clutch done, may as well as they have to take it all out anyway. That adage that horseboxes cost £1000 a year to run has started way too early with this one 😅 it's a lovely box though so I'm forgiving it...

Oh no, Chippers1, what bad luck. I hope your new wheels are soon back on the road without denting your finances too much.

The barefoot hoof care course that I attended yesterday was very interesting, and was with a nice group of people, it was worth the early depart. The car's windscreen washers were much used as the roads had been well gritted, and all sorts of crud was being thrown up from the cars in front. Had to make an extra early services stop to buy more deicer, though, as the washer nozzles froze en route!

After all the fuss and alarums of the late notification of yesterday's hunt meet, it was unsurprisingly cancelled as the ground is frozen - who knew?!

When the temps dip below about -3c it's safer to bring the hay steamer in overnight for storage, so as last night we got -6c in it came. It makes a bit of a mess on the kitchen floor but it (IMHO) makes the room smell lovely!

That's a nightmare Chippers. Hope you get mobile again very soon.
Tiddlypom, my OH complains about gloves drying on the radiators. (Ah that wonderful horsey aroma diffusing through the house). I'd never get away with steaming my hay! Though I agree it smells lovely.

How frustrating for you chippers , hope it’s not too expensive.

Fair play TP you have your chap well trained . Think I need a few tips from you, mine would blow a gasket . He has even suggested I get all my kit off before going in the house ( could be an ulterior motive 🤣) let alone the horses stuff !

I had a fab time the fence judge training . Really informative and went through the new rules, which may catch a few out . What a top bunch of people who really went out of there way to make everyone feel welcome . Plus a chippy lunch always goes down well with me .

That sounds interesting. Any new rules in particular I should know about? The main one I am aware of is the 2 eliminations leading to having to drop a level rule.

Well, we didn't cook! In fact we had some pretty decent weather and Young Henry well and truly stepped up... He was incredible all weekend.

Our SJ lesson got moved to Saturday morning so we didn't have to ride in the heat, which was a relief. Henry practically trotted up the ramp into the float, and as soon as I mounted was all business. He was fantastic the whole lesson and stepped up to each question, maming it all feel so easy. We jumped some of our biggest jumps yet and he felt very confident.

Today we went XC training and again Hen was very business like, getting right to work where the last time we went XC he was nervous. I was confident and really rode him, and he felt confident too. We jumped into and out of water, lead less confident horses through the water, jumped banks, jumped down drops and tackled ditches. Each new question he gave his best and even when he wasn't sure.

It was such a productive weekend and I am so proud of both of us!
