I sold one years ago it was an Ideal Ramsey got £600 for it but it was immaculate.

It totally depends what type the condition and the demand at the time.

I have sold quite a few saddles over the last few years, some on Ebay some on Preloved and taken payment with PayPal on a few occasions and never had any issues.

Mine was second hand when I got it (working hunter style VSD) it's not immaculate as it does have signs of wear but no major damage, more colour discolouration then anything. Thank you :)

i sold my lovely little XW GP for £75 a month or so ago. I was sick of tripping over it and just wanted it gone and no one wanted to buy it!

Following as I might be selling mine soon. I have an Ideal Event I bought for Archie 17 years ago. It then got fitted to Charlie 2 years ago. Wiggy arrived with his own saddle but saddler is coming on the 24th to look at both saddles. I'll keep the one that fits (or can be adjusted to fit) him best and selling the other. I hope I can keep the Ideal as I have a strange sentimental attachment to it, with it having been on both my previous horses (and I think I'll sell the Albion for more) but I'm sure I'll get over it if the Albion is the best for Wiggy.

I bought it second hand for £600 in 2005 (from the same saddler who's coming on the 24th) and it's still pretty much in the same condition. From the prices I've seen (it's always difficult as you don't necessarily know how old others are) I'd like to think I could get at least £400 for it now, £200 depreciation in 17 years isn't bad!

ETA - sorry to hijack the post but could I ask you a question please @sbloom? The Ideal was fitted with Flair before I bought it (my saddler really likes it). I've not had any issues with it at all but I know it's an acquired taste. Do you think this will affect its resale potential and value? Yet another reason to keep it, if so!

Hard to say as the second hand market fluctuates so much, but about three years ago I bought a second hand Ideal WH 17" for £350 (not fitted, I picked up four from the local tack shop and we checked the fit ourselves - this one was spot on). I sold the saddle a year later via a saddle fitter. Even after their commission I still got a bit more than I'd paid for it. It was a lovely little saddle.

A couple of months ago I just bought (after literally two years of searching) a second hand Ideal GP for my new horse. That was via a different saddle fitter and I paid £500 for it. It had been custom made in the first place for a tall rider on a smaller, wider horse so it could've been made for us - we got lucky there.

I would say that IME it is easier to sell via a saddle fitter as then potential purchasers have the confidence that it (probably!) does fit their horse. I've got a decent Jeffries Falcon for sale for cheap in a local tack shop ATM and haven't had any luck getting it sold.

I did buy an Ideal Jessica years ago for £200 it had hardly been used unfortunately it didn't fit either of my horses at the time I advertised it for £350 and sold it fairly quickly.

I recently sold a Jessica to someone who is on here and that sold fairly quickly as well.

Forgive this saddle fitter having to comment, the back of your saddle is sitting on the trim of your half pad and will give a pressure point.
Saddler didn’t actually see the half pad but sent her a picture there
The pad only came in one size full
It’s a 17.5 inch saddle

It just has to be big enough, what's on the label matters not, saddles should never be sat on sheepskin trim. You may find that you can unpick the front trim, on a Mattes you can, then you can push the saddle forwards on the pad, take care as it may be stitching that holds it all together.

Bear in mind that the size of the pad is the cotton underneath, the sheepskin is added on top, so if a cotton numnah fits your saddle then to have the top trim you have to go up at least one size. I don't know if other makers have measurements but Mattes certainly do. I allow 3" absolute minimum for top trims, 4" is better.

I have had no luck trying to selling an Ideal showing saddle - unfortunately being a showing saddle it wouldn't even be any good to give to the RDA for example. In my case I think it is that it is medium/narrow and everyone seems to want wide. Am getting to the point of not knowing what to do with it! Same no tack auctions these days.

Is it young enough to be widened a little? Show saddles sell best Feb-May.

I'm just about to put a 16" one up for £350 as baby cob has outgrown it and has a new saddle on the way. Bought 2nd hand for £400 and I'll drop to £300 to get rid. I always use PayPal goods & services

I sold a wide Ideal Ramsay with a dropped panel a few years ago, I think it fetched £450/£500. I also sold my Ideal Working Hunter medium/wide at the start of this year for £400 I think. It is quite tricky though, I try and wait until Spring time once everyone's looking to get back out and about.

It depends on size too. I've got an 18" Ideal Event which is bigger than most people want. I bought it for £250 and occasionally advertise it for that ono but no interest.

Eta I think a lot of people prefe the adjustable saddles these days.

Saddle cloths and Numnah, I've found lots of Full size that are too small, ones with Sheepskin trim round the back are impossible with a lot of brands.

Going on trying to sell an ideal deal with flair, no one wanted it, it had been an ex demo saddle sat on only, never used properly.
i got a few cheeky offers on fleabay of folk wanting to obviously make a profit, so I kept it and bought myself a bike pump and now I just adjust it myself, it easy peasy, saddle fitter showed how and I regularly just double check, meant to add, it was widened easily by shirley too

Thanks. I edited my post as didn't want to get told off for advertising. No it probably isn't but thank you for the suggestion. I will have another bash in the early spring at adverts and see how get on.

Don't hate me, but I've just bought a lovely 17" Ideal GP from FB Marketplace for £25 o_O
The lady had it from new. It's been really well looked after MW, I've got the saddle fitter coming next Saturday to check the fit.
BTW - It was advertised at that price, I didn't make any cheeky offers, she originally advertised it for a higher price, but no-one wanted it. :D

I have advertised a ideal impala jump a few weeks ago. It’s old and loved but sound and has new girth straps I put £450. Had a lot of initial interest and one guy who wanted to buy but disagreed with the postage, I refused to use Evri and wanted it insured to value so to be honest I stopped that convo and probably lost the sale.
It’s a saddle I love and has proved really useful over the years so I’m really in no rush to sell.

You can advertise items on here now you just can't sell or promote your own business

I think it has to be on the regional boards and not everyone goes there.

Shame as otherwise we could start a thread with ideal saddles for sale so they'd all be in one place.

Yes your right it has to go on the regional boards but I have seen people successfully sell stuff so it's worth a go you never know ?

I've just sold (about 2 weeks ago) my ideal impala pro 17.5 inch, mw on facebook market place. It was 10 years old, well used but also well looked after. I got £750 plus £20 postage. It took a while to sell but I just hung in there!
