I have seen a horse that I like the look for OH. He is an IDx and I have no experience of them. Does anyone own one and can you let me know what yours is like?
oh lovely, honest, and kind. Have never had a bad one. Can't really say more than that they just seem to have that little something extra nice about them.
Mine is a I.D cross Welsh. He is the most soppy, honest and genuine horse. He will try anything once and will try it again.I love him to bits. Not a nasty bone in his body.I couldent ask for a better horse.
My id x tb was the sweetest horse you could ask for. I was 14 and he was 17hh and not once did he put a foot wrong. Could hack him out, take him xc, go underneath him in the stable to get to the other side (yes I know, not a clever idea!). Fantastic temperment and very willing to please.
I have the loveliest IDxTB sort of on loan to me. She is the only horse I feel happy to do ANYTHING with. I would even pop over a log with her. She is currently in foal and due to pop in July so hopefully we will have another little Millie.
I love her to bits - even though she isnt actually mine. I would recommend them to anyone.
Why have I never thought of getting one before I wonder? We are going to try him on Sunday. I hope he doesn't get sold before then if he could be as good as you are all telling me.
Trust me to be different!! I have an IDxTB (actually more TB), who is quirky to say the least. I think this probably has more to do with his past treatment and life - he only ever hunted until the age of 12 when I got him. He's obviously had a fair few whacks in his time and is quite nervy. He's very spooky and not at all brave, and has vices on his vices!!! Having said all that, I think he's great and I feel that his previous owners did him a great disservice not giving him a proper all round education. I'm attempting to school him now and he is so quick to learn - he seems to read my mind on transitions! He's a real sweetheart who just loves fuss and love. I think if you find one who has had a good start in life and has been treated well, you'll have a fantastic horse.
Mine is fantastic - the sweetest, kindest, safest horse I have ever known. Absolute gem. She's not exactly a small horse but never uses her size against me, she doesn't have a bad bone in her body. All she ever wants to do is make me happy, then go back to eating hay/grass. Was described by a farrier I know who doesn't usually like horses as "cracking" which said it all really! Darnit I love my horse!
One is laid back and lazy, the other is feisty and full of nervous energy.
One can't cope unless friends are in the field with her and whinnies when they are out of sight, the other couldn't care less about being alone, and sticks her ears back at any other horse that looks at her.
One can't stand being in, the other loves it.
One I would put my grandmother on, the other ... fortunately is my daughter's!
The one thing they have in common is lots of character!
I have 2 at the moment and they are fab!!! They both have fantastic temprements and loads of talent in both jumping and dressage. Ive had others before too that were great horses and wouldnt hesitate to have another!!!
In my 'crash test dummy' era when I schooled etc for a living, I liked IDxTB in particular, however many of them tried to kill me!
I have been upturned in ditches, run away with etc....they can be talented, but they can be quite sharp too....

I'm not sure that OH will like the sound of being bucked off or upturned in a ditch! I think we'll have to judge the temperament of the one we're off to see when we get there. We have been told that he is currently teaching novices to jump.
This will be my first time buying a horse from anyone whom I don't know so I am quite nervous about making the wrong decision.
Perfect...Nice amount of bone not too heavy or fine, very genuine, bold, fast but not hotheaded, gentraly sane and seniable, toralant and good at ajusting to different rider levels, beauiful and pwerful. Idxtb is a brillant combo.
Best horse I ever had was an I.D X T.B she was irreplacable. Willing, quick, a gentle girl but with spirit in the right place. A baby could handle her and she could jump the side of a house.
Here she is a year after being broken and brought up from a field where she had lived all her life.
They are lovely but personally I would say that the TB part makes them not a horse for the first time owner/rider. If he is a reasonable rider then he could develop a good relationship with his horse and it may have the talent to do what ever he wants - but if he is a novice I would suggest a pure ID or a cob (and actually I would buy based on recommendation of the temperament in this case and forget the breeding altogether). Good luck with your search!
Mine's an ISH, IDxTB and I have to say I love him to bits. He has never bucked or reared under saddle though does very nice ones in the field
IMO the ID gives them a sensible outlook on life, like "yeah yeah whatever". Lots of character too
When I lost my IDxWB 2 years ago I specifically looked for either a pure ID or IDx as I think the substance and temperament are fab.
Do you know what the one you are going to see is crossed with?
My boys dad was ID x TB, mum was Shire x TB. Jay is sort of ummm unpredictable, very very spooky, irrational over stupid things but lazy and laid back to the point of falling asleep. Confused? Yeh me too!! Love him all the same
