If she were yours, what would you do to her?

I'm so used to seeing big muscley eventers I'm not sure what I want her to look like!!

I think I agree with you. Length off the mane, length off the tail and a good shampoo, and then I'll use the trimmers to take all the fluff off her 'ankles' and her beard! I'm not sure how much to take off her mane...I'm worried about making her neck look really thick! I suppose that I can take off a little bit at the time...I don't know how to pull her though, I always cut it with scissors (ducks for cover!!!!!).

Goodness only knows what she's made up of - mum was a TB, dad must have been an extremely hairy elephant!!!! She is unbelievably hairy in the winter, but in the summer she's a much lighter colour with a beautiful coat - in the winter, her feathers are ok but in the summer she looks daft!

Anyone got any photos for me to model on?

And of course, I shall post a photoshoot on the weekend when I've done her :D

You won't make her neck look too thick - because it's not.

As for pulling the mane - get someone to show you, (and I've cut a long mane with scissors, and then pulled it to the required length).

I think that she looks a bit cobby now as she is young, but is actually going to become a nice hunter type...

I would pull her mane - if you can't pull it either get someone to or use a solo comb to do it - if you cut it with scissors it will look thicker and make her look worse.

I don't know if I would pull her tail yet, she is young. Keep washing it, and see what it turns into?

Don't hog her - I think it will make her look plainer...

I think she is gourgeous just as she is.

Just for fun, I think I would plait her main in a 'gypsy' type plait, like some heavy horses, ie just one huge 'french' plait that goes all the way down the mane and then tied with a ribbon at the end.

Bloody hell! Did you steal my horse?!

Wow, thats given me a definite kick to sort her out! x

Haha yeah sorry ;)

I didn't pull her mane too short, and left her tail unpulled but just kept it a little bit shorter, so that she looked presentable. Feathers were trimmed off but still had a tiny bit there. As you can see her forelock required a lot of attention ;)

ETA: You may find it useful to wash tail so it is really clean then plait it up (into three and then plait those together) as it will stop it from getting so mucky and make it 10x easier for you!

I'd trim feathers, I'd pull and bang the tail and I'd pull the mane short.

She isn't going to carry off a hog IMO.

So just standard, hunter presentation really

Manerake her mane to make it look like EDickens' pony's mane.

Oil and nurture her tail. (Oil will help it deflect poo). Keeping her tail full (although you may want to cut the bottom of it level) will enable you to enter Best Tail competitions at shows.

Feathers...she'll lose half those feathers when her summer coat comes through. She's only that hairy-legged in winter coat. I'd trim the legs/hoof hair up with scissors and comb to give her clean legs.

When you show her, you can show her with mane loose or with mane plaited if you get it like EDickens' one.

Oh Ceders - she really is lovely.

If she were mine, the tail would be sitting just below the hocks, and her mane would be pulled nice a short.

I would leave her feather for the moment until summer is really upon us, then I'd clip them off.

For condition generally add some oil to her feed.

Exactly this. She's lovely :)

I'd tidy her up and get rid of all that feather for a start. She's not heavy enough and she doesn't grow enough feather to make it worthwhile keeping, all she succeeds in doing is look tatty as if you couldn't care less which I know isn't true but that's how it looks, sorry.

Pull or rake the mane and the same for that tail too which might go some way to being easier to keep clean; at least it won't take half as long to dry if you do that. Take her feathers off too, she'll look a smart horse then.

Well, you did ask but sorry, it's a pet hate of mine to see something trying to be something they're not and she is no way a traditional cob with feather, she's smarter than that if you give her the chance.

I like her head :) I'd pull the mane to an equal length, not too short but not massively long, clip/trim her legs and just cut the bottom of the tail straight and shampoo it when it gets warmer. But that's just me, feel free to ignore my comments I can't deal with lots of fluff and hair :D

Well she's not quite 'trying to be something she's not', she's a not-quite-3 year old who's been in a field growing up for the last two years! That's why I've asked for advice now because its the first time I've bothered do anything with her to make her look presentable - she's barely left our yard in all the time we've had her and I certainly haven't cared what she looked like!

Ok, so, feathers off definitely, mane MUCH shorter (so we're thinking like, a female hand span??) tail thinned in some way, good scrub and a bath and we'll be halfway there! I shall begin the transformation on the weekend and will post photos :D x

She's a poppet. I have one somewhat similar, except that she's mahogany bay with all black tail and mane. I am a huge fan of Johnsons Baby Oil. It won't look quite so spectacular on white hair, but it makes hair shiny and smoother than it would otherwise be, as well as waterproofing it. It will also lie flatter.

There are some cobs that suit being hogged, but to my mind your girl isn't one of them. Perhaps a tad off her tail would smarten that up. But I'd have her any day!!

She looks a sweetheart. I would pull and tidy her mane which looks nice by the way at least it all falls correctly. Trim all her feathers up. Leave the tail it is so lovely and full, just shorten it, not a lot though. A good shampoo will do wonders.

Agreed - I'd take an inch off the tail and pull the mane a bit (but not full on pulled - just a bit shorter and straighter) and trim the feathers.
Otherwise - gorgeous!

I wouldn't do anything at all to her. Manes and tails are there for a reason... I love horses looking as nature intended (though not to the point of being half starved in the winter of course). I guess I would wash her tail to show her though.

I think she is lovely, she will fill out more (as you mentioned) so eventually she may suit a hog.

For now I agree with most on here, tidy mane (use a solo if you are not pulling) if you use scissors it will remain too thick and will not look right.
As for her tail, good wash as you said and then if you want it to stay clean for showing make sure you plait it the night before. Our YO connie is grey and has a white tail, she has enough conditioner on it so that she can do 1 huge plait.

I think she is lovely, hope you will have lots of fun with her...look forward to the updated piccies.

I would pull her mane, trim off the feathers and leave her tail. Perhaps shorten it then wash it and plait like I have here with my mare. This keeps it cleaner. I leave it like that until the summer when it's loose for flys
