I'm 'thinking' of setting up my own ebay shop which may possibly lead to me getting my own website. Initially I would be selling horse stuff and a small amount of pet stuff but would like the option to expand.

Please could you answers these questions so I can get a rough idea of what people are after?

I am not thinking of selling rugs initially which is why I haven't got them in the poll.

Any ideas or thoughts would be great!

Thank you

new mostly, been stung a few times with second hand stuff being in poor condition, but is its listed properly then its good. I do shop around though as sometimes I find stuff cheaper than ebay sellers have them for sale

I've bought 4000+ items on eBay (mostly horsey things if my OH is to be believed!

) but really couldn't answer your poll. Mainly because whether I choose 'New' or 'Used', or which listing format, depends upon what I am looking for. If I am buying something new I generally prefer Buy-it-Now. If I'm looking for something used (which I often prefer) I look at the Auction style listings first. Starting price rarely interests me. I know something half decent isn't going to stay at its 99p starting price for long, and it's usually just a way for a seller to keep their listing fees low. P&P cost and speed of delivery is FAR more important to me. I look very carefully at those. If I buy or win something I don't want to wait a week for it to be posted out or be charged extra to compensate the seller for their eBay and PayPal fees!

Good luck with your venture

Done, but couldn't answer the one about the starting price - as an example, I wouldn't even look at a book that started at £20, but if I was after a tweed jacket then I would expect to pay a minimum of £20, so it depends what you're buying really.

I put other for the last one as I mostly buy rugs. As chunkie says, starting value varies according to the value of the item.

Being lazy as this is pretty much exactly what I do. If I am buying things like VetWrap I want to Buy-it-Now, if I am after a second hand bridle for example I would rather use the auction format in case I can grab a bargain!

I would be put off by a high starting bid but would end up bidding more if it started low if that makes sense!

You often see items ending with no bids at all if it's a high starting bid but same item with a low starting bid could end up making double as it attracts more bidders that get carried away fighting at the last minute.

Running an ebay shop it is actually very difficult to make good money. Remember you will have listingg fees, gallery fees, end value fees and possibly paypal fees (best leave it sit until you have over £50 when withdrawing it becomes free.) It's not as good a money maker - or as easy - as it first appears.

If you do though, Good Luck, I may be buying off you int the future!
