I am asking for a black bridle for my birthday and my parents-in-law have kindly said they can stretch to £70, it would be a full size with a flash noseband - what would you recommend (I don't do showing by the way and hate rubber reins!)

Thanks

best thing to do is have a look at lots of different brands to see which you like the style of yourself, and which would suit your horses head, rather than just getting recommendations of what other people like.
if you havent got them already, send off for all the mail order catalouges (sp) for pictures

Really wanted recommendations as I don't know what would be a good make, leather quality for that money - all new to me you see, never bought a bridle in my life!

jeffries is really nice leather, my OH got me one from the traditional range for xmas (saddler said trad range leather is better than falcon range)

also allowed me to buy seperate parts to make up a prpoerly fitting bridle, i usually have to get full size but the cheekpieces are always too long (cob size browbands and nosebands are too short)

Iv got a lemetex one, and its quite nice. Nothing wrong with it, but the leather isnt top top quality
Recently bought a sabre breastplate, and the leather on that is sooo much nicer, if I could go back I would have bought a sabre bridle too...

How about getting a heritage bridle from Ebay (I paid £45 for mine) which is really nice quality, especially for the money, but comes with rubber reins, and then spending the remaining money on a pair of reins that you like!

ETS: Have you looked on CotswoldSJ's website? She has some really nice leatherwork on there.
Also, there's a store on ebay which sells the heritage bridles which will customise them for you - changing buckles to billets etc, and they *might* do leather reins rather than rubber, but I'm not 10o% sure. Will try and find the link for you.

Have a look in the Shires catalogue. They always have some nice bridles. I bought one of their own range plain snaffles, and i found it to be lovely quality.

I'd go for a nice Stubben padded one. They are normally about £125 new, but you could get a new or really good nearly new one from ebay for £70.

I have a passier amongst many others but the one i use on my boy is a mixture of a barnsby magnetic headpiece, passier white padded noseband and barnsby browband. I would reccomend for your budget , barnsby, I have sabre as well which is nice, I also had a jw bridle which was great as it had clips for easy bit change, perfect when eventing. I have no idea about the rhinegold or others off ebay.

I love my stubben bridle although you may have to put some extra money towards one as i think they start at £80 ish. They look like quality and feel lovely, very smart.

I paid about £120 for mine about 10 years ago and have used it about 3-5 times a week since AND it still cleans up as good as new, the stitching is still perfect. A highly recommended investment

I've got two or three Jeffries ones that I love to bits. Excellent quality. My reins are 15 years old if not more and they are still in excellent condition. I've got a sabre one too which is beautiful
