If you suddenly came into money, would you change horses?

I, for some reason, have been thinking about this a lot recently. I've always wanted to event but due to having not a lot of money of my own or within the family i've never really competed/had a horse to compete with.

Now i'm a bit older and am earning money to pay for my own horses, struggling but managing. Both of mine i've taken on as projects so haven't needed lump sums to buy, so it's just the up keep. Major is obviously my boy, and he will probably be able to event at some point, and we're learning together. Don't get me wrong he will never set the world on fire, and neither will i but i thought to myself if i for instance won the lottery this friday would i sell him?

I am almost certain i wouldn't, but perhaps i would get an experienced competition horse to have alongside him. Without being too soppy he really is part of the family now and i can't imagine not having lord cheekiness about!

So guys, truthfully, really thinking about it... would you sell on and 'upgrade'?

No as I love and like my 4,many years ago I would have loved to have bought a nice steady hunter, but not at the expense of getting rid of the horses I had at the time.

I would buy the horse I loan, get my own saddle for him and new barefoot boots.

Depending on the amount of money I would by another aswell as mine is 19 and a bit creaky so maybe other end of spectrum get a 4yo :)

No, as Reg is fab and will hopefully be a decent horse in his own right. However, I would buy my sister another horse who was smaller (15.2hh ish) and a true BE intermediate schoolmaster type. The experience would be invaluable in helping her produce Reggie properly- right now, she's doing an amazingly good job but it will be the blind leading the blind once they hit BE Novice and beyond.

My girl is with me for life but she would certainly upgrade her living standards with a farm of our own with lovely stables, covered yards and an all weather arena - preferably covered.

I would keep my lad but would also buy a more competitive horse to run alongside him. Depending how much money I might even buy a string of horses. :p

YES!!!

Golden Dun Section D Mare (the heavier set type) 15hh to do M&M workers with!

(the scratty ex- racer just doesn't cut it!)

I'd buy a 15h for my stepson, who is about to grow out of his wonderful 13.2, and I have no idea how we will be able to replace him. The big two are wonderful and do everything we want, so I wouldn't replace them. I would also take on the old broodmare from the next farm, who is around 30, but chucked out on her own, never has an attention etc. She is desperate for company, and grooms ours over the fence when we ride past if she can.

I would drain the fields properly, build an arena, get a nice box and a groom or two though!

Never ever, the big lad is with me and my best friend for life. Wouldn't swap him even if I was the queen! (he'd make a fantastic drum horse :-))

I've been thinking about this kind of thing recently too. I'm thinking about moving off my pony and onto horses but at the moment, funds won't allow it. There is no real reason to be rushing off my boy so I don't really mind and I wouldn't want to sell him anyway! However, IF we had the money I would definitely buy another to move up eventing levels with and keep my current boy to have a bit of fun with and give him the nice retirement he deserves, which, hopefully, will not be starting anytime soon!

Mine wouldn't be going anywhere but as he is getting on in years and ready for a quieter life I would probably get a youngster that I could bring on and compete.

I'd keep my mare, but get a nice ploddy happy hacker as well because I miss being able to slop along on the buckle end without worrying about riding the bloody thing the whole time. :p My horse is cleverer than me and I don't like it!

If I came into money I'd get another but I'm never likely to come in to money and am never likely to be a very good rider I'm gonna stop thinking about it. lol

Oh I have my "if i won a few million on the lottery" scenario to a T! lol Always drool over the 1.9 million houses in the back of horse & rider mag with 30 acres, indoor, outdoor, xc course etc (well who actually gives a damn about the house right?) lol.

I wouldn't change any of my horses no (well all bar 2 are getting on a bit anyway! lol). However, the things I would buy.................................!

Hmmm, £105million........................................................!!!!!
