If you were offered 25K for your horse - would you take it?

Not a chance I wouldn't give him up ever, I have nightmares about loosing him as it is! Never any about losing my family or friends though.... Healthy......

For my current horse no (for one thing it's around 50 x what he's worth so anyone offering that would need their head examining) he means far too much to me and has far too many health issues! For a healthy horse in the prime of their life with enough going for them to be able to find another home if this person eventually sold them on who I didn't have as much of a bond with then yes I would have to seriously consider it. That much money could pay off my debts, replace my car with something that's cheaper to run and maybe even put a deposit on a house. Doubt I'll ever be in this position though

Haha oh god this me, prob not the healthiest view point in the world but errm ah well :P

Yes, no question!
Horses have never been pets to me, and as much as I love my Gizmo dearly and know she has tons of potential, I would sell her for the right price. On the other hand, I wouldn't actively advertise her :)

No. He means to much to me, he's part of the family and I'm proud of the pony I have produced so now I want to enjoy him. I just couldnt let him go, we suit each other and get on well even if he thinks he has a rough deal ;). He will stay with us untill the end of his days and I would struggle to get a sharer for him let alone sell him :o.

You could offer me 100 times that and I would never take it. I've never sold a horse in my life as I get very attached to them quickly. Regardless of whether I needed the money or not, I would never sell my much loved neddy. He is part of the family (even after only 8 weeks with us). I know I'll never find anther like him and and even so, I could never part with him as he is my big baby and will be with me for life regardless.

In a word.

No.

he has good breeding and is capable of far more than I could ever aspire to but he is happy here and doesn't care much about his breeding or capabilities so here he stays. There is not enough gold in the world to convince me to change my mind either. I can't take the money with me but my experiences and memories of him are priceless and will stay with me for always. Simples.

if by some mad mis-hance i ever ended up owning a horse with that level of talent - i wouldnt be able to ride one side of it - so far beter it went somewhere compatent:D

Yes, but I have been offered money for ISH in the past and knocked it back, I really have done very little with him and it would be fair to say he is wasted with me. But I do hope that i will get my act together this year and do more with him. He gives me a lot of pleasure even if a paddock ornament.

For my youngster I would yes, not that I would get offered anything like that, but he is for sale anyway. For Drummer my 'forever' horse no way he is stuck with me for life. Not very long after I bought him nearly 10 years ago two people asked to buy him, one for £4.5k when I had not long paid 2k for him when I said no I was offered their Audi tt lol, no again- very tempting for a carless skint 18 year old. Im pretty sure I didn't tell my parents incase they made me.

I'm afraid I'm always rather sceptical about people who say "I was offered £xxxxx for my horse". No matter how wealthy I was, if I was interested in buying a horse I had spotted, I would initially ask if it might be for sale before getting into prices. Why go straight in and offer say £30k when they might sell it for £20k? Over the years I've just heard way too many people who've been "offered" crazy sums for their horses for them all to be true. e.g "I'd just jumped xxxxxx round the British Novice and xxxxxxx, famous rider, came over and offered me £xxxxxx - yeah, right!

I was offered 15k on the hunting field for mine - his realistic value is about 1/3 of this...Still said no - he has a home for life and is going nowhere.

Besides I would not trust his quirks to anyone else!

I would be interested in how this person saw my horse and worked out he was worth 25k. If I'm not competitive and not on any "circuit" how did they see him and would they know how much potential he had?

However it would depend on how attached i was to the horse and if i really did think i was holding him back from achieving his full potential.

Unless it was your horse of a lifetime that you would always regret selling then it would have to be a serious consideration.

Have turned down slightly less for one of ours, not particularly because of attachment to him, but you have to think about how much it's going to cost to get another with the ability of the one you're selling. Yes. we would have made a good profit, but no guarantee that we could find another as good for the money.

Wouldn't sell my Blaze for 25 million, not that she's worth much to anyone else but me, I love her too much. It would kill me :(
Mind you, OH definitely would kill me if he found out I'd turned down a fantastic offer :D
and I have to say there have been times when I would've swopped Jasmine for a Mars bar, evil baggage that she is :D :D (only kidding!)
No. Mine are here for life. I would sell everything I have and live in a cardboard box to keep them (OH wouldn't be sharing me box, haha!)

I was, quite recently, and turned it down. It depends on what your plans are. If you sell, only to have to use the money to replace said horse, then in a lot of cases it's not worth it.

A friend of mine once bought a super, super horse for around £40k - a true find, horse was almost PSG ready but seller hadn't quite realised his full potential (could easily have made the YR team). He took him home and within 1 month he was offered a six-figure sum, which he refused. Everybody thought he was crazy but he quite rightly pointed out that, had he sold him, he would have had to replace him with another potential team horse, and he would have spent all of the money on something else -- lots of heartache and risk and not much earning if any, so what was the point? (As it turned out, said horse did indeed win a medal at the YR Euros :D, so he was most definitely proven right!)

OP, as you said you are not that competitive then maybe it's a bit different in your situation.

Tont isn't worth anything really, and he doesn't have any potential

However, if I was offered that for him - and if he would only go to a home where he was cared for and loved for the rest of his life - I would take the money. It would help my parents massively and I could then afford to put myself through university.

But if he would end up being passed around and not be loved, I would not take the money. I would regret it for the rest of my life - I love him too much :o

Honestly after all these difficult few months with my horses health, I'd say no without a second thought... Even if I was offered more, not a chance.

For the Welsh Cob no...he's not only special to me because he's my first horse, but I consider him to be my once in a lifetime horse (I was that lucky 1st time round!), he's done so much for me I don't think anyone could put a number on his worth to me! I did have a guy offer me 10k last year as a driving horse...we were at a ridden show and he's never been broken to drive!!

I was offered £17k for my horse whilst he was on a showing yard 5 yrs ago. I didnt take it as I wanted to carry on his showing carer and loved him too much. Shortly after that I got fed up with showing and he's just been a hack and isn't as well schooled and is worth a lot less. If I could turn back time I'd definately take the money now, as long as I knew he'd be cared for.

I can honestly say no, I was offered quite alot of money for my Irish Draught on the day that I bought him.

He's the old fashioned type and on the day I fetched him and bought him onto the yard. I was just walking him off the trailer and a visitor on the yard offered me quite a good price for him which would have made me £7000.00 profit in less than 2 hrs of owning him.

Many thought I was mad not to accept as I hadn't yet bonded with him or knew him.

13years on and I still own him and have never regretted my decision.

I always knew he was special from the moment I set my eyes on him and I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest.

Love him always and fore ever:)

honestly.....no.

Shes very special and an absolute pain in the backside but i love her to bits.

Shes worth a few grand - nothing more - she has too many issues (one being ulcers) to be even worth 25k lol!

No,

My horse is useless to everyone else anyway, but I couldnt do it. I can't stand the thought of not seeing him every day, never mind selling him.

I value my happiness over money.

On that note I'm off to muck out in the rain :D

No, because I couldn't sell my horse to a madman... and they'd have to be that to offer £25k for a 21 year old welsh section d.
