I was looking up Ethel's dam, Kallistas Pride, on Racing Post and noticed it said her last run was on the 26th August 2006 ... Ethel was born 12th April 2007. Thinking it couldn't be right I checked on At The Races too, but it also says she last ran 26th Aug 06.
She would have been pregnant with Ethel at this time ... so how can that be right? Surely they wouldn't have ran her 4/5 months pregnant, but both the sites are pretty correct most of the time so how can they have got this wrong?

If anyone can enlighten me I'd be grateful .... knowing me it'll be something stupidly obvious that I just haven't noticed :o

With racehorses AI, embryo transfer etc is not allowed. A good few mares run every year in foal-can't remember what the cut off timing is-similar to BE because I think BE took their dates from racing- but when she ran in August she wouldn't be more than three months gone

Mares that race are often raced after they have been covered, it is quite normal, sometimes it improves their form, they are not is season and it concentrates their mind to the job. Some great race mares have won group 1 races in foal. BTW no racehorses have embryo transplants. They have to have their foals naturally and be covered by the stallion.

We had a filly that ran in foal. She was a strong hormonal witch and that is being nice about her. She was quite good and i think she wn when in foal then after that win she retired to stud
