Who'd want an ex-race horse?

Nasty, spindly things which break at every opportunity, cost a fortune in feed and rugs and then kill you when a nasty looking plastic bag threatens them from a hedge. Blech.

Or has that one been done to death? :D

So you know my horse then? Lmao!

I'd really like an ex-racehorse but only if it's quiet & well behaved & doesn't spook at scary plastic bags, & doesn't drop weight in the winter, doesn't have crap feet or have ghastly vices......... but does have super kind, generous nature, hack alone & in company, suitable for family home, like being turned out with ponies, not mind travelling in a trailer & jump safely round PN courses........i'll have that one if someone can find him for me :-)

Thanks but I already have three cats...

I can safely say they are mad too. Beware the Ides of March...

Why on earth would you want something that cribs, weaves, box walks, bites, kicks, can't keep weight on, can't leave the stable, when it's finally out of the stable can't be caught from the field, is scared of it's own shadow and doesn't grow enough coat to keep itself warm in summer??! ;)

So SamanthaUK, do you REALLY want a racehorse, or are you just stirring? :D Because JFTD nailed it in one. I've only had about 2 dozen of the critters in my life and wouldn't change the joy of that spooking-at-the-packet / jumping-at-my-shadow for anything. Once I've fallen off and broken my hip my views may be modified, but in the interim.... RACEHORSES ALL THE WAY!!! :p

They're very pretty, and people always assume that when you say the horse in an ex-racer it's also a fire-breathing dragon made of glass who you rescued from it's nasty trainers, making you seem very brave and worthy.

The reality that it's a dope on a rope with the sweetest outlook and has had a thoroughly spoilt existence from day one is neither here nor there :P

From a TB owner - thoroughbreds are like landrovers. Wonderful when they're in working order, but prone to breaking a lot and cost an awful lot to run!

:D I have both - Landys and TBs. Guzzlers of note! Very often hard to diagnose what's wrong with them.... and even then, it can't be fixed or requires some sort of specialist attention etc etc. Overall, they are temperamental and have to be nursed along half the time! But they can do things their counterparts can only dream of :p

I had a ex racehorse as a teen....chestnut mare with a reputation for rearing (although we didn't know that at the time, and she never did with me), who took pleasure in attempting to kill our local vets, leaving me to be the one who ended up vaccinating her when the vet got trampled in his attempts, was impossible to catch, terrified of puddles and anything blue, and was generally trouble from the day she set foot off the trailer.....but she was the most amazing animal I have ever seen and she brought me a lot of happiness and fun. Give me a fruitloop anyday.....

dont ask me im on round 2 the first was so nuts that after he broke for the 3rd time and was turned away he spooked in the field and ripped his own hoof off the second isn't much more of a success after rearing and falling on top of me and had to be off for the last 6 weeks... both crib weave and bolt... ALOT they are spindly and expensive but can run ******ing fast so if your an adrenaline junkie :D .......!!!!!!!
