I broke quite a few horses for a guy who breeds himself. He really doesn't have a clue and the mare's are wild. The offspring are wild as he leaves them untouched for 3 or 4 years and then passes them over to any idiot who would take them. In this case me! I had just moved to the UK and was trying to build up my yard, needed the money etc etc.
Anyway I got a few of these incredibly wild, ignorant 3 and 4 yo's to break. Worked away with them and got them going quite well.
The owner has no patience and expects them to go to shows a week after they have been sat on but I put my foot down and told him that they needed time to mature both in body and mind and to leave them back out for 6 months to grow up.
One horse inparticular was lovely, he was the oldest of the bunch and he turned from a nervous wreck to a smashing ride. I gave him a couple of months break after the initial few months of him being ridden and then got stuck into him. His flatwork came on lovely, he was jumping great. Never ever did anything out of the way. He had a gorgeous mouth and I had worked really hard on him. Took him to a few shows and he got double clears etc etc. His owner who want's to sell everything and would probably sell his mother then had a prospective buyer for him. Prospective buyer came to try him, loved him and offered him £5k for the horse. Owner turned it down, he wanted £7k ... now bear in mind this horse was bred from a wild broodmare with a stallion which also runs with the mares and then lived on hay and water for four years before coming to me for a while. So it hadn't exactly cost him a fortune to get him to this point
Anyway prospective buyer didn't buy him and I can't say I blame them.... rip off.com!
So fastforward a bit. I was getting sick of owner expecting me to risk my life with his silly horses and I was getting busy with the racehorses anyway and my yard was filling up. I only had this horse above and a 2 year old of his by this stage anyway. I told Mr Owner that I was too busy and wanted to concentrate on what I really wanted to do which was the racing. So the horses wen't home and 6 months down the line I get a phonecall from Mr owner. The horse above who I had going lovely. Bolted down the road at the weekend. He had tried to buck the girl off who's been riding him as well. He is trying to blame me saying that I didn't break the horse properly. I wen't to see the horse Monday night. He is a nervous wreck again. I am so upset for the horse as he doesn't deserve any of this. I think the 14 year old who has been riding him has galloped him about every day that she get's on him. All of his shoes are off bar one (I doubt he's been shod since he left me). I am just so mad and I nearly said I'd take the horse back just for the horses sake but I really don't want the hassell with his d**k of an owner again. I'm at a loss of what is the best thing to do.
Any advice, much appreciated
