Is this common jarring injury when taking a tumble?

Since I had my fall, about a week after I developed a bad shoulder, although I didnt hurt myself at the time, athough a few days later my right arm gave me jip for few days, as know I jarred that one.

I can't stretch it out, twist my arm or reach behind my back without it hurting (for example applying fake tan or doing your bra up....is a nightmare :D) although I can bare it, it's not stopped me from riding, although I may struggle to hold a strong horse.

I think because I've not rested it (as I didn't know at the time), that's why it has got worse, I'm now waking up in a morning with a terrible throbbing in my shoulder (but its right in side) its like having the worst back ache but in your shoulder.

Do you think I should just pop some pain killers and rest it or jog along to the docs?

Any else has it?

yes but from swimming (funnily enough!) not falling off. never fully rectified (clipping Frank yesterday has set it off!) though chiro and a bloody good massage/acupuncture helps.

did you land on it or strain it?

I either present with a pain in my right arm (where the tendon inserts) or pain deep in the back of the shoulder. Often its more of an ache. I wish I had rested it more when it first occured but because I presented with arm pain it took ages to actually determine the cause

I would rest it, take some ibuprofen for any swelling and ice it if possible.

I had this all last summer. Not sure if the fall I had in May started it, as the probs I had with my neck were more pressing.

Anyway, ended up in same situation, not able to raise arm, agony in bed etc... I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder/ impingment. I ended up going for physio, and it really did work. I wish it had started sooner, and I wouldn;t have had to live with it for 10 months (rubbish GP who 'forgot' to refer me for physio).

Now, 13 months after it started, I have no virtually no pain, just the occasional ache.

Chase you GP for a physio referral, or if you can afford it, go private.

Ah I should have added I did get referred to physio after several months but I dont think I had a very good physio... they still never worked out where it was.. it was chiro that pressed shoulder (I still thought it was arm) and said bet it hurts there :) :D. Have since gone for private physio on my ankle (that was a fall) and had a much better experience :)

I've had this too, but not from falling off a horse. It was a freak accident in the sea, a wave knocked me right over and dragged me under, twisted my arm at a really harsh angle! Anyway it was the worst pain of my life, thought I had broken my shoulder. Turned out to be inflammation of the bursa. Had physio and ultrasound and it did come right, but it took a while

Thanks guys.

I think I'll go to the GP and see what they say then, no doubt painkillers and rest.

You can actuallly see though on my coller bone where it goes into the shoulder a bump on the bone, its different to the other, but no actual swelling, but I can feel its not right even up towards my neck, maybe it needs some physio like you suggested.

Thanks for you help.
