In shock what type of person would do that ?!

Well Purple18 I agree with you and share your disgust. She ought to be ashamed, not laughing. Imagine how the child felt, all excited that Mummy had decided to bid, gets the pony, then next minute the pony's not theirs anymore but is going off to the meatman. I just hope they were young enough that perhaps that fact went over their head. Talk about the mother from hell.

And as a Shetland owner of many years, they make delightful if somewhat cheeky companions, but full of fun and great with kids in the right hands. Just because they're small shouldn't make them disposable, no animal should be seen in that way.

What people really need to do is to stop buying crap shetlands, running them on, breeding from them and not registering them then half of these messes wouldn't exist! But that's another rant altogether.

Is that aimed at me or not ?

If not I have the same opinon as you.sadly i don't see it changing any time soon :(

Thank you :)

No, not aimed at you at all, just a general rant lol!

We breed big, upto height shetlands designed for ridden work, of HOYS standard and with impeccable bloodlines - thus they are not cheap ponies. We haven't had a foal in 4 years as there is no market for them. People are going out and buying the crap because they are cheap and that's where the viscious circle starts! If someone buys it more will be bred! And thus rendering the good stock pointless.

I dread to think how many foals this stallion had brought into the world.

it's such a shame i really hope the market picks up. I wonder how many of the horses in rescue centres are unwanted foals ? would be interested to know.
