I got back yesterday from a 5 day course at AM Dressage. Wow, did we improve! I was, tbh, feeling a bit low last weekend after a rubbish test and Mr B standing on my toe leaving it very painful and probably broken, but this weekend I feel so positive. The training was superb, bang on what we needed to progress. The lectures were really interesting and thought provoking and fun too! The food is great and atmosphere is very friendly and hugely supportive at whatever level you ride. I know I must sound like an advert and frankly they don't need to advertise as they are always fully booked but having done a few different camps over the years, AM comes out top by a mile. I just wish I could share a video of some of Mr B's work but I haven't got one, just the memory of how fab he feels when he's going really well!

they are just fabulous there, aren't they. i am always buzzing after a good session with the team.
Have seen the dates for next year and was trying to decide whether to sign up for one, but tbh I think 3 days in a row is too much for Kira :( I'll go and stay overnight a couple of times instead.

You should have said you were going to be there, I'd have snuck off work for a few hours to try and video for you ;)

Oh, that's so kind of you! I will do that in the future, OH was working so couldn't come and I'd love to have had a bit of footage, he felt awesome! I'm doing an over nighter later on in November as I want to build on the progress we are making. It's also lovely to see Matt riding his lovely horses, isn't it? We were however, both totally exhausted when we got home, so we've had a day off today to recover. Mr B is eating grass and I'm doing the ironing! there are times when I think the horses get the better deal.

Really useful thread, thanks, a friend and I are just looking for somewhere to go for a training trip away. And this recommendation looks great. We are eventers though - wondered if anyone is able to recommend a good place that does eventers training camps?

Well depends on your level etc I guess but Stockland Lovell do some courses which include all three elements of eventing and there is a good XC course there, so does Somerford. Active Rider also do camps but like AM they tend to be booked up very quickly. The alternative is to contact a good trainer like Nick Gauntlett or Chris Hall and see if they can put a package together to suit you.

Thanks. We are not far from Somerford so might put something together there with our usual trainers. The idea of just one phone call and everything sorted for 3 days is quite appealing! Also good to get input from someone new.

Enjoy your new improved flatwork!

That sounds excellent. Shame it's so far from me but might be able to convince my dad to help me take the horse there if we take turns to drive. I take it most people just sleep in their lorries? We don't have one unfortunately so we would need either a b&b or whatever we can find. But you never know might get a lorry next year if i am really lucky ha!

I have a 3.5 without living. At AM you can have a room in the house subject to availability and an extra charge of course but cheaper than local B&B. At Somerford I found a great B&B which was very close but some people camp. I camped at the Central Dressage course at Addington (but was my least favourite) Stockland Lovell has well equipped porter cabins and at Solihull there are B&Bs in the area and a camping field. The course I just did was a Scottish week, with most of the participants travelling from Scotland.

I totally agree with you, it's fantastic there. I took my section d to the 3 day course and the improvement in his canter is amazing. It is a great atmosphere, very friendly and staffed by lovely people.

I've organised a couple of 2 day camps and they were great fun. There were 6 of us and we did two individual lessons of 45 mins each day, chipped in with food for lunch and had a BBQ in the evening. I'd still do them but there's only 2 of us left riding!

I think AM dressage did an eveners course earlier this year - saw a reference to it on their Facebook page

Ah right wasn't sure if there was a camping area. If I was going to go I think I would do their 5 day one just because we are in the north part of Scotland so it is a long way. Did they ride your horse as well? I quite like seeing my horse being schooled by someone more competent because when he behaves for them he moves beautifully.
