Do you ride your horse in the weakest bit that you have breaks in or the bit they go best in?

Breaks have never been a problem with Daisy, she's far too laid back to want to tank off with you, but that doesn't mean that she goes best in a simple snaffle.

Depending on what I'm doing she's ridden in either a french link hanging cheek or a french link pelham because this is what she likes but I get a LOT of comments about this.

I ride my horses in what they are happiest in, but again if I don't have sufficient controll I will find an alernative that the horse is happy in

It's often said on here, but better to have a horse that is happy in its mouth with a stronger bit, than a weaker one that you have to haul on, or that plain doesn't suit it.

I hack in a waterford and school in a kk - both chosen because my horse goes well in them. She is a contrary mary though - when hacking she takes quite a hold and the waterford backs her off - in the school she ducks the contact so the kk encourages her to take it softly.

I ride in what my ponies are happiest in. My little gelding goes in a double jointed happy mouth most of the time, but in the show ring he has a jointed pelham. I don't need the brakes, I only use it as it is either that or a double bridle for showing. I have another mare who I started in a happy mouth but she just does not get on with them, I changed her to a a french link with full cheeks and she is fine in that. And my old mare has an eggbutt snaffle, she still gets rather wizzy at times but I can hold her in that without yanking on her mouth and if you put anything stronger it just stresses her and she gets all tense and more wound up.

I use both! I use the softest one he is happiest in at home to try and get the best out of him, But have to notch it up a gear for competition use otherwise I would be out of control!

Stupidly one day, I decided to see if he would be happier going around a xc course in his 'soft comforty home bit' - oh dear lord - it was the most suicidal experience I have EVER had lol!
