Ok, ok maybe not ;).

We unbelievably got selected to represent team Wales for the Senior Inter Regional Championships, held last weekend at Keysoe EC :eek3:.

Now this is a regional event, not an international event, but as Wales is a whole country on it's own as well as being a region for BD, my parents have been busy telling friends and family I'm now an international sportsperson :D. Surely this is only the start of our meteoric rise to the top, no ;).

Had a quick lesson with the fabulous Di Breeze before we left, I surpassed my usual inadequacy by failing to co-ordinate my aids for half-pass, massive brainfarting happened :o. Di is so lovely, and kindly pointed out if I don't get the inside bend using my legs it isn't going to go well :o. Asides from that, or maybe Di felt that if she was nice to me I might get a sudden stroke of brilliance and regain some idea of how to ride :D, as long as I keep the shoulders up and kick on it was all good :biggrin3:.

Then rode through my test, Topaz promptly tried to drop my on my head, by spooking into the first halt :o:eek3:... However the lovely judge roped in to give us pointers, was super lovely and gave me loads of tips of where to pick marks up when Topaz tries to drop me (on my head or otherwise :biggrin3:).

Looong journey down to Keysoe, think I know why I've never been before now! Settled Topaz in to the team Wales stabling, did the arena familiarisation (definitely did not accidentally twang the hedge and scare other horses ), and then got on with meeting the rest of the team.

Up bright and early for a whirlwind day of helping out team mates and riding my warm up and team test.

Topaz said arena 3 was très scary, so really tried to focus on keeping the engagement and shoulders up, but tension obviously still in attendance, an obedient test but lacking some swing and rhythm. Decided on a super short warm up for the actual team test, as I really didn't want her to get tired as well as tense and behind the leg, as well I'm just lazy and don't 'do' actual kicking :o. Unfortunately for me, we seemed to get the awol judge who seemed to need varying amounts of unscheduled breaks... Half an hour after my time :rolleyes3:, and then nearly 8 mins trotting round the arena (this is actually a whole eternity in a dressage arena I checked the definition), we made it up the center line! I really think I worked much harder than Topaz in that test ;), have I mentioned I don't do working hard :eek3:!

So with my face now matching the very fetching Welsh colours, at least we had completed day one, I'd not fallen off, been a nuisance or really embarrassed ourselves and I'd not been banished to another team  success I'd say . Small quoffing of a smidge of wine occurred that night, you know just to get in the team spirit of socialising ;), (though we did abandon the idea of a barbeque as the rain descended).

Day 2 of the team Welsh experience, arrived with no rain :D and a surprising lack of hangover, life wins were high! New arena for Topaz, but got her in front of my leg and was feeling confident when another horse whinnied to her just as we started... Topaz spent the whole test trying to spy where her new friend was, and saying "be my friiiiieend" back :o...

However, we were super consistent with 65% in every test, ending up individual 15th in the medium class! Managed a good handful of 8’s (not that the judges could agree for which movements and when, they should be given for :o ), and get this we had no unexpected flying changes :eek3:! Team Wales overall had some stonking scores and great team and individual placings :).

I’m so thrilled to have been selected and that we didn’t disgrace ourselves, first champs of the season done and I think a great start :). If anyone is thinking about going for teams I'd definitely recommend it, I had the best time! Plus got to briefly meet a fellow HHO'er :).

Lovely report, sounds like loads of fun!

I keep thinking perhaps I should get my bum in gear and try and do it but I really don't think Kira is a team horse :o Too much "marmite" marking potential :p

Where are you off to next?

Nonsense! If Topaz can do it, anyone can! Honestly everyone was super lovely, didn't matter about the marks too much and just went out to have fun and do our best! Do you really think Topaz isn't a wee bit marmite either :biggrin3:.

Topaz may be making another debut this weekend :eek3:, that's all I'm saying till we've done it!

Congratulations and very well done. Some great pix there and looks like you had some nice weather for it too!

I'm keeping an eye out for you on the international stage now. :D

you've spurred me into action. Found a venue doing some test riding within travelling distance :) Will drag Salty along for some outings, I'm a bit fussy about who trains Kira so not changing her about on the off chance we're good enough :wink3: At least Topaz is a normal kind of size :o

ohhhhhhhh it's this weekend! enjoy it :D

 The weather was pretty kind after the Saturday evening downpour, we are almost there definitely getting better!

YAY!!!!

I'm super lucky that Di is a BD trainer as I agree, if you find a trainer that works for the quirky ones you stick!

She's a positively dinky 15.2hh, plus we're the weird ones that are barefoot, don't feed hard feed and do a cracking chicken *hackney* walk :biggrin3:.

Very well done for keeping composure, and perhaps loosing pound or 2 with the extra work after judge going awol :D
Great write up :)

Thank you :), never felt as tired as I did after that test! Unbelievable really, never had a judge go awol before, no idea what was going on!

Lol at dinky.... Salty is the biggest horse I've ever had and she's 15.1! (I think, can't actually get a stick near her :D) You're just used to Skylla the GIANT :biggrin3:

 Skylla is definitely the same size as Topaz still!!!!

I like the littlies, much easier to transport about and get on ;)!

Awesome report, well done! Topaz looks very pretty with her plaits in ;).
For teams do you have to live in that particular country or have come from there? I'll never be to that standard, just interested :).

Ooh I saw the Welsh team at Keysoe on Saturday! Wish I’d remembered there were hhoers there and would have kept an eye out for you lot! Looked like a very nice event.

So normally it is where you live, but as I had done all my regional training with the Welsh region (Di Breeze is a BD coach), I requested to switch, also I am planning a move over towards the region (not ironed out which side of the boarder I'll be lol).

Never say you won't be to standard, honestly I have spent the last 5 years saying Topaz is not championship/ team material and she has proved me massively wrong! Ok we weren't placed this time, but 65% wasn't far off in the medium class, and the team said having someone who is consistent is really helpful to give some stability to the scores.

Great write up and well done! Loved the bit about the whinnying :D

:) Thank you, she's a ****** for thinking everyone is new and bestest friend .

It was a fab event, Keysoe is fab! Next time maybe I should take a HHO banner to attract other HHO'ers :biggrin3:.

Fab report, so excited to be able to read about your international debut #wesawitherefirst :biggrin3:

Hope you have a wonderful trip this weekend. Also, can't help but notice - Topaz is looking super lean....she looks great
