Introducing Zach

Time for a little update now he’s been here a few weeks.

What can I say? He’s just superb. So well behaved for a just gelded 2 year old. Pretty sure he’s an old soul who’s been here and done it all before.

He’s respectful of electric fencing, loves being groomed and bathed, has come on leaps and bounds with his feet to the point the farrier refused to believe he was 2 as he was better behaved than most of his older clients ha!

He’s a big dope on a rope and is taking everything in his stride, I couldn’t be happier with him and so pleased at my impulse purchase.

First turnout. He’s not in with the others yet but has plenty of grooms and playtime over the fence.

Bridle and bit for the first time, totally unbothered :)

Falling asleep whilst having his feet done for the first time yesterday. Still a little way to go until I’m happy with the shape of his feet but they’re so much better already. Happy to see his condition has improved a touch also.

Teeth and second lot of vaccs due next week and then I’ll feel like he’s all sorted for now!

How did I get so lucky??

He’s such a cool dude taking all that in his stride for a 2yr old ?
He’s looking lovely….you’ve got a horse in a million there….he’s definitely joining the group of my fave HHO horses - im gunning for team Zach! ?

Sorry I didn’t get round to replying to everyone, I’ve just been so so busy, but I really appreciate the Zach love.

Time for another little update - would you believe he just gets better! His personality is really coming out now and he’s so funny and so sweet and gentle with it. He’s definitely feeling much better than when he arrived but absolutely does not use his size against you.

He had the dentist a few weeks ago, nothing of note other than wolf teeth which I’ve decided to leave alone unless they start to cause an issue in future. The vet fell in love with him and Zach fell asleep whilst having his teeth rasped, talk about laid back.

He’s been on a few walks out and about and met plenty of tractors and been through the woods nicely. Long reining is on the cards next and if he likes it I may think about driving him.

He’s a bit of a funny shape right now which I think is mostly to do with him only being 2 and lots of growing still to do. In some lights he looks a bit porky and in others his ribs are clearly visible and he looks all angles and gangly, youngsters!! These two pics were taken minutes apart:

The gang have all been getting on well but I’m still keeping him separate from the other two as Sherbert is a massive flirt and he hasn’t long been gelded. Ben jumped the fence and was in with him for a few hours last week with no dramatics but he doesn’t seem at all fussed, happily turns out by himself. There is a possibility he will be getting a little friend shortly but I keep thinking do I really want four through winter… ;)

Lastly, I popped a saddle on him tonight. Didn’t blink. Not once. Bless him. No rush to back him, but as he’s so big I want to make sure he’s had plenty thrown at him before the time comes so it’s hopefully a (literal) walk in the park :) I won’t bother getting a saddler out yet as I expect he will change shape a lot over winter, perhaps I’ll look at a treeless options come spring, suggestions more than welcome.

(Excuse the scruffiness, he is due a haircut and had just been dragged in from the field without seeing a brush!)
