iPhone shutting down outside due to cold - what to do about emergency calling out hacking?

It’s a known fault with IPhone batteries. Their batteries in general are a bit rubbish. They claim to have fixed it with every iteration of iPhone and yet the same thing happens...

This is the first time I've read about an iPhone that shuts down because it's cold.

I don't hack out alone. If I take my phone with me I turn off WiFi, GPS and mobile data, and I can usually get a good two days usage from the internal battery for SMS and occasional photos. If I think I'll need to have GPS on, or be gone for two days, I'll take a 3000mAh external battery and a cable.

I always take a spare charger with me if I’m tracking a ride with iPhone As battery soon runs out they are rubbish
Saying that I sometimes go out for 3/5 hrs

Good lord. My cheap, IP68 rated (fully submersible, and can be dropped off a cliff) phone lasts over 3 days with GPS, bluetooth and wifi all continuously on!

Surely, when it comes down to it, the only thing which matters in a phone is that it isn't broken or out of battery when you need it.

My iPhone did this too. In fact it used to randomly crash and battery life was appalling. After 10 yrs or so with iphones I've just made to break and escaped to android. Freeeeeeedom!!!

Agree my old flip top Samsung was so much better than these iPhones

Mine does this too. Even more so if they're over a year old. o_O. Try and make sure all your background apps are shut, and keep it in your pocket close to heat. I have a charge pack i keep and i can also charge in the car. Charge pack is handy if youre out for a long ride as its fairly slimline.

Android is a software system, not a make of phone. My husband had an issue with his Samsung Galaxy battery, it was a common fault, had to have the battery replaced. I've had iPhones for years and never had an issue with the battery, maybe I have been lucky! Battery usually lasts a couple of days, unless I am using it a lot. I did try an HTC once (with android OS) and did not like it at all!
