I have just bought a gorgeous full Irish Draught, rising 4 yo gelding. I am a complete virgin where passports are concerned and was wondering if any of you good people would guide me in the right direction of where / what I should do.
He has come with a full green Irish passport. The front of the passport says Irish Horse Register Passport. On the page which lists breeding, parentage tested, breed, chip number etc it says at the top of the page Irish Sports Horse Studbook. So my questions are:
1) What website do I need to go to so that I can update my details as his new owner. (I have tried googling this but it brings up a few different sites so I am unsure of which one he is registered with).
2) I also need to name him. The front of the passport has a sticker saying that foals can be named at 2 years of age by submitting 4 names .can I still give him a registered name at 4 years of age or have I missed the boat, and if I can is there a way of checking my shortlist of 4 possible names prior to sending them in to see if they are already in use?
3) As he is full Irish Draught I would have thought that he would be passported with an Irish Draught passport agency. As he needs time to mature I am not looking to do too much with him initially but I want him to get to see a bit of life so thought I might try some showing with him, do I need to do something with his passport in order to do some showing classes?
4) And finally how long does it take to get the passport back (presuming that you actually have to send it off in the first place! I am guessing you do!) He had his first lot of annual jabs after his vetting so I dont really want to send off his passport for it not to be returned in time for his next set of jabs to be updated.
If anyone can shed some light on this I would be eternally grateful as I am going bog eyed with googling different phrases and not finding the answers I need.
