Irish ex-racers - Euro's in passport?

I've had Charlie over 2 years and when I bought him I was given his passport with some Euro's in it (not many!) and told not to remove them from it.

I always assumed it was some of his winnings (maybe his first?!?) but wondered if anyone knows for definite?

I guess its maybe a good luck thing and I would'nt ever remove/ spend them but wondered if anyone else has heard of it?
 
It's luck money - the vendor will give the purchaser a little money for luck but you need to keep the money!!!
 
All my boys from Ireland came with luck money, I still have the £5 (old Irish pounds) that came with my little dressage horse nearly 20 years ago - he is long gone (RIP) but the note will stay forever!
 
In the 1960's, I used to be a farmer, well almost.
Iin English cattle markets, luck money passed with every significant transaction, luck money was like a discount, it was not kept, it was for spending, it was a cash transaction therefore tax fee.
Luck money encouraged people to come back to the original vendor the next time he was in the market.
I have never had luck money with a horse.
 
As others have said Its for Luck!

Quite a few horses I have had over the years have come with some sort of thing - money, special keyring, lock of foal fur!

DO not remove it! Just keep it in there! Even if you are not superstitious!
 
As others have said it's luck money , often if you pay cash it will be some of your own money given back .
The tradition is that you don't spend it and therefore will always have money.
