FUMING, was on the fields with Biscuit and a GSD and a god knows what came bounding up to us. Biscuit is not good with bigger dogs, we had just managed to get him used to charles spaniel sized dogs without him attacking them.

So these dogs come bounding over, both of them minus collars and obviously showing no intention to recall to their owner, Biscuit (who was on a lead) had already been picked up by this point was growling like mad. Their owner shouted 'don't worry their friedly' , 'well mine isn't and will attack' I replied.

At this point the other dog (don't know breed) jumped up at Biscuit, trying to bite him, and he caught my arm, it didn't leave a mark but it certainly hurt. Now I wasn't standing for myself of my dog getting injured because some idiot is unable to control his.

DISCLAIMER - I am one of the biggest animal lovers you will ever meet and I would never ever extremly hurt an animal, I want to be a RSPCA officer for petes sake I'm not going to go round abusing animals.

So as this animal went to jump up to bite again, I put my foot on its chest and firmly pushed it away, I would like to point out that I did not kick the other dog, I used the sole of my foot to move a dog away who was a danger to myself, my dog and my friend who was with me. And used my command voice to say 'Leave' the other dog sulked away back to its owner and the GSD quickly followed.

The rest of the walk was relativly boring, Biscuit was very shaken up and we have gone back to stage one with his socialising but we will get there. We also got caught in a rain shower

You were a lot more restrained them me I would have booted it, sorry if it offends anyone but my dog comes first. I have a similar dog to yours who is dog aggressive and I have worked so hard to get her to where she is now and if another dog did that it would deserve the order of the boot.

Hope Biscuit is ok and you, it must have shook you up.

I work in a animal shelter so dealing with agressive dogs is a day to day thing, Biscuit isn't dog aggressive its just that whilst he was at the shelter he was attacked by a larger dog which has made him very scared so I have been slowly building up his confidence around dogs but now we are back to the beginning

Flying lesson and hell let loose from me! Had a GSD bound over to toffee just before the gallop stretch so already high spirited(my pony). Owner shouted sorry he's a rescue he should be fine my reply was a involved bleep bleep get him on lead now and my horse foot in face as she will kick. Luckily dog then spotted rabbit and left me alone. But even on my horse that dog looked scary. Well done you for standing your ground. I have only been bitten once by a mini rough collie thong that my neighbour had, it attacked the postman too!

I would have done panicked kick ass thing. :o Even though my lot are suddenly fine with other dogs (when did that happen?!), I will not allow badly behaved dogs to maul mine-it puts them right back, I find.

I wanna see a mini Rough Collie thong :o

well first,in the words of Mrs Beeton.."first you catch your mini rough collie"..sheltie to you or me,then make your thong, the tail is the most useful bit, being already long thin a very furry.Make excellent steering wheel covers too..so I am told :D

I do boot dogs too that are aggressive to me or my dogs, there seems to be an abundance of them round here!
All I ever get from the owners is either shouting at their dog as it has no recall or ignoring the situation and keep walking.
One of my dogs had to be lead walked and she is nervous anyway, due to meeting too many aggressive dogs I think.
She was recovering from a broken leg so had to take it slowly but so many other dogs came running up and jumped on her (some aggressively and some not) that I had to resort to picking her up at one point and booting a lab who was trying to jump up me to bite her. She was terrified, I was fuming and had a go at the idiot onwer who had absolutely NO control over his dog whatsoever.
Last one was a entire staffy muzzled that chased my dog (now off the lead minding her own business) who ran right across 2 fields and onto the road, how she didn't get killed I don't know, again idiot bloke who had 4 dogs, only one of which was on a lead just stood there calling it, it ignored him of course.
Since then we have had 4 Manchester Terriers flyout of the long grass having a go at her as well as myself and my other dogs, she ran across a football field to get away but came back when the terriers were caught by the owners, a GSD bitch who has a go at alot of dogs and owned by another idiot bloke who won't take any responsibility for it who gets aggressive to me if I say anything to him. I have met other people who have had a dog picked on by this bloke's dog.
NOTHING is ever done about it as I have reported it to the wardens, not even a reply!
2 jack Russells were the last dogs to chase her, because she is nervous they play on it and chase her even more.
I have tried to socialise her to get her confidence up but 1 in 5 dogs are nasty and chase her, it is a hard battle to win!
She's a longdog so can cover ground rapidly if chased, I have tried keeping her on a lead but she panics before the other dogs are anywhere near her as she knows she can't get out of the way, so you are not alone with having problems with other people's dogs!

and lastly Toffee44 if you can send me a rough collie I can make you a thong if you really want one!
Oz :)

I hate that!!

I hear it too much - dogs off lead come bounding up to my GSD, completely ignoring their owners pointless shouts "Fido come here, here Fido!" and then "Don't worry he's friendly!"

"Yes, brilliant, but mine isn't!"
hence why she is under control and I'm being responsible for her.

Hmm I fall into the irresponsible owner category:( I try really hard not to be irresponsible but just occasionally I don't get my young lurcher back on the lead in time and if he see's another dog before me he's off to say hello. Recall on our own is no problem but if there is another dog about we have issues. We are trying really hard to be good and attend training classes to try and improve it, so it's work in progress. His saving grace is that he greets other dogs quite submissively and is not to much in their face.Living where I do, I tend to meet the same people at the same time so I am usually on the ball and on the look out for the ones to avoid and the ones to meet so he can have a play with their dogs.

FWIW I would do the same as the OP if my dog was being harrassed and I would not blame anyone doing the same to mine if he was being troublesome.
