Irresponsible Owners

Its a sunny easter sunday. I am dreading taking the dogs out as there will be people and unruly dogs everywhere. Id normally drive far out where no one goes and have a peaceful walk, but with petrol costs so high and me being so poor I'm trying to avoid driving like that. I think today is going to have to be an exception. I feel really unwell today and Ive had a rough night and I just cannot cope with idiot dogs and owners today.

Was that the incident where the owner was followed by someone once he had the dog on a lead?

We encounter horses occasionally in the woods, there’s a yard at the entrance and a bridleway round the periphery. G is extremely wary and hides behind me.
Im not sure - there was no information connected to the video. The humans were being useless though!

This isn’t about irresponsible owners, but just interested about peoples thoughts…I was fence judging yesterday and noticed something I hadn’t really noticed before, several dogs looking really tired after walking the course with, presumably their owners, it was an elderly looking golden lab that really caught my eye, as he/she walked behind their owner, very end of lead but making very heavy weather of it…The course is long and hilly (drumlins) ….
I actually felt so sorry for it.
several dachshunds who had passed looking very full of life, but not so much coming back…
Maybe some do not realise how much it takes out on a dog who maybe isn’t as fit as it could be…

The same people wouldn't dream of making grandad suddenly run a marathon or put a baby in a boxing ring, or indeed do any type of exercise they hadn't trained and been conditioned for themselves, but apparently dogs really enjoy that sort of thing and can just do it automatically with no fitness work at all.

Also, I've been out of horses for a long time, are people so laissez faire with horses? Will they pull an old, fat horse out of a field, that hasn't been in work for months and immediately go and jump cross country and get all sad because it's a bit tired and slow, if they even notice?
Unfortunately, yes. Saw exactly this at a hunter trial last year and suspect it's not an unusual scenario.

On site vet intervened thankfully.

Welcome to the new world of horse/animal owners….and it’s such a shame…Thank goodness for those in authority at events who do step up and try to explain and guide, or if all else fails stop it..

Yes.

Someone wanted to hack with me yesterday, and I had to find a nice way to put them off because I was doing a fast 3.5 hour ride and their horse has hardly been ridden all winter. Didn’t think it was fair on him, plus I was feeling rubbish and antisocial anyway.

I was on a yard about 10 years ago and a girl on her early 20s did this with her 20yo+ horse. It got ridden roughly once a fortnight during the winter and one Sunday she turned up and took it to a HT. I was gobsmacked but I think I was the only one who was!!

I did just that monday evening - was worth every penny of petrol as it restored my sanity!

Re the horses, I sold a mare a few years back. She had been out of work six months and had just started back under saddle. Buyers hacked her round the 30 minute block. Were happy with her. Seemed nice. Took her that day.

They were well aware she had been out of work. Within two hours, there were pictures of her bitted up strong and jumping. I had to immediately remove them from FB as I felt so, so guilty.

Back to dogs.

This is on pets4homes atm.

Marshal is a lovely dog and does well mostly female! He shows aggression towards people & other dogs. This is a really difficult situation and I'm very upset to be writing this. I have contacted RSPCA & DOG TRUST & BATTERSEA they have all said they cannot help. ☹️

I have a nearly 1 year old daughter and he just isn't liking her so currently in separate rooms at all times. He's amazing with me and my partner but gets really nervous goes into Fight or Flight mode around people and dogs. Currently avoiding going out in public due to him just barking and lunging at everyone and everything. We do have a prong collar that he works well with and we use that when we need to take him out.

His favourite thing is his toys he loves running around the garden chasing them very fast and nimble dog.

He is a American Staffordshire terrier X American ball dog have DNA.

I would like Marshal to go to someone who will dedicate to looking after him and giving him a happy life.

I got him when he was 1 and I've tied training etc he hasn't liked any of the trainers and won't let them go near.

Unhappy dog. There are worse things than being pts. ☹️

It sounds like a ticking time bomb and also sounds like it would look and be very similar to a slightly watered down XL bully with that breeding.
A friend has a dog with similar breeding and the american bulldog means he's too tall and lanky to be an XL but that doesn't mean he's not a big powerful dog who could be dangerous if not mentally stable. He's also quite an anxious boy tbh but lucky his mum knows what she's doing.

I walked with my dog up to Toolstation to collect my order a couple of days ago and as I was being served, the smallest dog I have ever seen appeared around the corner of a central display no collar, lead, or apparently owner, and attached itself to us.

I wanted to leave but it was having a great time sniffing Jones bum. Outside was a busy car park and road so I couldn't just march out and enquired if it belonged to anyone. A tall woman in overalls appeared from behind the central display and said it was hers and it had taken a liking to my dog!

I can't imagine it will live a long life if she is that cavalier with it. For a start, it could have been trodden on as miniature Chihuahuas can't be commonplace in Toolstation and secondly, it would have make a great snack for a hungry dog!

Thats what I was imagining, a leggy xl bully. Yet another dog let down by people :(
