I just wondered if anyone else is having problems with their ponies and horses being naughty in this weather. I took my daughter to a pony club lesson today and her pony was being a right little sh*t. I haven't been able to do anything with him this week during to the ground being so hard and icy. Luckily my daughter managed to stay on as I really didn't fancy a trip down A&E this afternoon!! Am I the only only who is having issues...

Charlie was fine today even tough he hasn't been ridden for over a week. I only took him for a quiet hack (still to hard/slippy to go above walk) with one other pony and he was surprisingly calm. If I had tried to do anything more then that he would have been a bit loopy I expect!

Bodey is defiantly a bit fresh but that’s because he is on oats and has been hardly ridden at all over the last few weeks, I know that once I get riding again though he will soon calm down. Think my lesson on Monday is going to be fun!

Badger would need a rocket up his ass for him to ever have a hint of ‘freshness’. Saying that _Gina_ has done a wonderful clip on him today so that might help for all of 2 seconds.

my 4yro is being quite fresh at the moment- despite living out and just eating hay and chaff!
i blame the fact that she is a racing bred TB so is quite sharp anyway, coupled with cold weather under her tail and restricted exercise because of froazen ground and christmas!

i have had mega problems with mine resulting in a total loss of confidence (amazing how it can disapear in a day!) He has been a real prat - havent dared to ride for a couple of weeks - RI rode this morning and i got on for the first time - so glad it seems to be the time of year/weather as i was worried it was something else x

yes - nothing bad just lots of jogging and play spooking - quite funny really - have given up trying to do much and just turned him away until weather improves - cant be bothered neither of us rnjoys hacking in minus 5 like its bneen all day today and as we dont compete he can wait til it warms up for me to get back on!

My two were both excited for my lesson this afternoon, despite being ridden in walk ant trot everyday this week apart from one plus extra hacks out too! I went to pony club on wed and my horse is usually the hyper one but he was the best in his group!

I managed to ride the day before yesterday for the first time in 5 days due to the weather.Candyman was very sharp and even though he was accompanied by a schoolmaster horse still managed to put in a huge leap and bomb off when he spooked. He normally will go past things sideways if he is scared of something but will always listen to me and do as he is asked. I managed to turn him out today and boy did he need it.

Yup - managed to get out for a ride yesterday - 1st in 5 days - was supposed to be a quiet amble through the village with 2 others from my yard. One mare spent the entire ride trying to double barrel my boy (normally adores him), the other gelding was marching out and jogging whilst mine was in a coma! That however changed in the middle of the main street when he woke up and proceeded to canter/trot on the spot much to the amusement of my fellow riders who were laughing so hard they nearly fell off! Are still taking the piss that we chose to practice piaffe and passage in the middle of the village!!

Hacked one of my boys out today, first time he's been ridden in 3 weeks, so was expecting some high jinx, and got them, but then he has every right to be a bit silly, he did make me laugh though, riding along the lane, on one side a yellow grit chest and on the other, someone's party ballons, first we went left at high speed and then we went right!

Yes, just high jinks and silliness really, they were hooning around the field, doing sliding stops and goodness knows what else, I had my heart in my mouth just imagining the potential vets bill, then they mucked about to be caught to be ridden this afternoon. A lot of cheekiness, but happy to be out and about again after a week off.

Yes! Mine have been turned out every day but they don't mess about in the field, they save it for when we're on top. Jogging sideways, head tossing, yanking... we took the mares out for a 5 mile road ride this afternoon, not a lot of fun. Swapped with my daughter onto her smaller and slightly more obedient Welsh D as I was really not enjoying being on other daughter's Arab/Welsh. The ponies are 17 and 18 and should be past all that nonsense.

Thanks for all your replies. I just hope we all survive this silly spell and get get through it safely! I am going to high a school down the road today (lets hope it's not frozen!) to give them a good blast. I'm sure thats what they need.

Mine are very on their toes at the moment - even lunging is more like flying a kite!
