Is it normal for a child to clean her rocking horse's tack?

When I was a kid I used to have one of those Julip horse and riders. My dad made a mini stable for me, and I even made a mini haynet with hay taken from my yard.

And yes I used to clean the tack that came with it...strange child! :p

Entirely normal:D My daughter had a rocking horse called Naomi (?why?) and she groomed it, plaited its mane and tail and clean its hooves regularly:D she will kill me when she sees this post:cool:

i think my rocking horse was a scabby old one from a second hand shop.....

it had a sticker on it saying 'belongs to julie' so julie was its name! (i must add i must have only been about 4!)

You're so lucky to have a girl!!!

13 year old son had a lesson today with his old instructor (we moved away), but as it was the holiday I was happy to drive him and his pony 50 miles for a lesson.

So, asked him last night to clean his tack properly. When I went to bed I discovered that he had cleaned part of the bridle, but not dismantled it. Saddle was clean on top, not sure he looked underneath! Reins, bit and martingale still filthy.

Had a proper look at the bridle this morning, and the 'outside' looks lovely and clean, but the 'inside' - yuck! I guess he thought he could get away with it!!

P.S. Don't worry, I love him really, but grooming, tack cleaning etc - they're for the girls!! :)

This is Harvest, He is 18 years old now and is a much loved member of the family. He had his own feed bucket, brushes, rug and brushing boots among other things!

ps yes, she used to ride him in double reins lol

Aw how sweet, get them trained young ;)

My uncle spent months restoring an old rocking horse for me. It's tack did last about a year but then i decided i wanted him to be free and tack was cruel. So i cut it all off. Feel terrible now :/

At least yours have a rocking horse, my daughter plays imaginery ponies, head collar and lead rope is sufficient. She even called my farrier, to ask him to help her load her pony for a show, he downed tools and loaded the pony for her, and broke his ass laughing finishing the horse. He has a great sense of humour, most farriers wouldnt bother with imaginery ponies!!! So cute!!! I love my farrier!!!

I did this when I was little to my rocking horse Alex bandages the lot.

Saw an old rocking horse all dirty and manky in a charity shop last week for £10 and felt sorry for him so bought him. OH not impressed, while he watched TV I cleaned all the tack and washed its mane and tail, it looks a lot better now. And also put the dogs NZ style rug on it to dry after a walk :D

Grow up....Never. At least Alex has a friend now :D And my son (age 7 months) can grow into him

awwwl it is normal...she will even muck out her bedroom and groom etc every day...buy here a real one and it all stops lol....this I know as a mother of three teenager horse mad girls.....lol

We haven't bought OH's youngest (4) a rocking horse, her doll has a horse and she has a few cuddley ones, but her favorite ones that she looks after are her imaginary ones. She has me in stitches, last year when OH and I first moved in together, Katie was "riding" around the flat and "jumping" down the landing, she dismounted to do something or other to her "pony" when OH walked through, she fell to her knees and squealed "Noooo!!! You've squished him!!!" Lol got me chuckling now!!

Perfectly normal :D
