Is it really so strange?

I'm with you on this one OP! One of my favourite smells in the whole world is the smell around my horses muzzles/lips! I can regularly be found having a good old snog/sniff and a hug down at the yard lol! Not weird at all!

I'm strange too then, my two are extremely affectionate and love kisses and cuddles and have absolutely no concept of personal space (both hand raised) they are eejits but I wouldn't change them as much as they are annoying when I try to get stuff done. I'm not one for letting dogs lick though, I do find that rather too unhygenic but I do give my dog kisses, has got a lovely squishy kissable face ha

Can't say I actually kiss my lad, but cuddles and scratches are compulsory. He's a chunky highland so just the right size to hug. Kindly add me to the "strange" lisa.

People are strange what they find unhygienic. I would personally say that by the end of the day a child is more unhygienic than a horse. People still kiss their kids. Cats are super unhygienic with their grubbly little paws walking on your pillow. And dogs roll in god knows what. However I kiss and snuggle all of the above and haven't caught anything hideous yet so I'll take snuggles over hygiene!
I once had to share accommodation with a lady and I had a shower washed my hair, tied it up, got dressed, went to breakfast, washed my hands with antibacterial gel as I entered the dining hall, tucked a stray hair behind my ear and she told me that hair carried germs and I should go and re-wash my hands :-O
I really don't know how I've survived this long!!!

Nope, don't do cuddles, kisses, scratches. Horses don't really like being pawed at, other than with the rubber curry comb, in fact they have to learn that a pat is a good thing. I have a friend who's into all that bum scratching stuff; her horses are rude, pushy and in your face. I prefer horses to do their own itching.

One of my horses will will lick my face and neck when I groom him he loves it, he also holds his tongue out so you squeeze it he is quite special I have never known a horse like it I am sure he would happily live in my front room with me, the other one enjoys a scratch but his no where near as affectionate as the other one and he can nip so you have to be careful, but they both get a kiss at least once a day I do it without thinking.

I find that most of the horses seem happier with a scratch, or a tickle on the lip, though I have got a couple of 'kissers', and I'm happy to oblige. (I believe one of them is a NF x Labarador). The dogs are a different matter. Unhygienic or not, they do like to kiss and be kissed. If it were going to kill me, it would surely have done so by now... oh hang on, I'm ill less than anyone else I know :)

I'm definitely odd, I love getting up close and personal with mine.

One of mine loves scratches and though a pushy (at times) cob never pushes for a scratch, one doesn't care at all unless you have food which is odd as I'd always been told arabs liked the interaction and one will snuggle her face into me and has the most kissable face ever.

OMG the person who said that to you is a FREAK!!!! Life isnt worth living if you cant kiss and hug the horse. Best smell in the world.

This. I definitely wouldn't consider them 'horsey'. If you are that bothered about germs etc you probably shouldn't have animals. I'm even happy to give my pigs a peck if they pucker up (which they do often)!

Well I do kiss my horse which I suspect she thinks is a little weird. Kissing her soft muzzle is the highlight of my day! :)

She really does love a cuddle though. She'll sidle up and gently rest her head against my chest for me to gently cuddle. She'd stand like all day if I let her, or gently rest her big ol' head on my shoulder so I can hug around her neck. The other thing she likes to do is rest her muzzle against my cheek.

Until I had this horse I don't think I would have believed that horses can be affectionate towards humans but she has completely changed my mind. Still don't think that horses 'love' humans but I think they can have a stronger attachment to some humans than others. :)

I wouldn't trust my lad not to take my face off if I tried to kiss him as he already has problems remembering that I am not a horse when I groom him. He does, however, "close" his neck around me in the evening when I've leaving his stable and I take that as a cue for a quick cuddle.

oh yes, loads of snogging, scratching, hugging, and being hugged back.

last thing at night i yell out the kitchen door `goodnight darlings`

Those that are worried about catching something....probably best not to have pets or animals, but even more important to stay well away from other humans.

Another weirdo here!

Our mini Shetland LOVES being kissed on his nose - he runs up to you with his muzzle in the air and won't put it back down until he's had lots of very noisy kisses. It is so sweet and it breaks my heart that we have to muzzle him because then he can't have his usual kisses all the time. Our Welshie doesn't particularly like kisses but is very cuddly and loves licking people - I tease him that it's not fair that he gets to give kisses but I don't.

However, I cannot abide dogs that lick, in particular faces! So the dog doesn't really get kissed much but there are constant cuddles. Luckily he understands that I don't want to be licked so he doesn't try.

Mine get copious amounts of kisses and cuddles!! I also wave at them if they look up at me whilst they are in the field. Usually there is no one around but OH saw me doing it recently and was speechless!!

My mare loves to have the circular rubber curry comb rubbed in circles and it picks up discs of hair. It picked up around 30 last time she is moulting so much!

Oh the knobbly rubber comb. It sends Dave into idiotic, face pulling, leaning onto you ecstasy. & yes, those lil discs of fur.

I think it's a personal thing and people should do what they want. Animals are smart and pick up body language and tone a whole lot better then people. So why some people might not be demonstrative they still show their affection and the animal reads it. So then the animal gets used to that level of affection. I'm a hugger and a kisser and I don't give a flying **** what other people see as wrong or unhygienic. Having been witness to mothers kissing soggy , snotty , sticky babies that's a whole lot worst then a dogs tongue , makes me feel sick. My favourite is when the woman eats the half chewed food of the child. Puke!!!

I can't imagine not wanting to kiss and cuddle my horses. I love getting close enough to smell them! I suppose to a non horsey person that might sound weird but most horsey people I know are the same.
I've been known to kiss my favorite cow too!

Horse kisses are perfectly acceptable, as is mud, treading in horse poop and mucking out stables.

Touching door handles, public loos, shared telephones, other people's toothbrushes and sticky children freak me out completely.

I find all small children that are sticky, need a nappy change, screaming and having snot running down their face disgusting! The fact some mother would eat food that's been near one of them makes me want to throw up just at the thought!

I'm an animal hugger and kisser, but I am the most un-affectionate person when it comes to people.

The Diva is very tolerant and weirdly does seem to enjoy cuddles and kisses. Well at least she doesn't pull away and sort of leans in towards me or curls her neck around which I find quite sweet. She's probably wondering what her weird human is doing, but she obviously recognises that it's something I do and she's ok with it.

I absolutely love kissing the hooligans muzzle- between the edge of his nostril and his lips- it's so smooth and smells amazing. He is quite happy being kissed, but he's not really into hugs, so I respect that and generally just give him a scratch on his neck (and then steal a kiss of that muzzle).

Another wierdo right here! My horses all get cuddles kisses and scratches and all love it. My boyfriends horse follows me around like a dog wanting a fuss!

As for it being unhygenic, id rather kiss my horses than some snotty smelly brat!
