Probably as long as you try and keep as much of her body dry as possible and leav her in untill tail is dry i dont see there being a problem. I would certainly do it

Our mare will nearly sit down if I wash her tail in cold water - so I tend to boil kettles and use luke warm water so she doesnt get cold water on her dock - but then she is very spoilt. I'm sure for most horses it is fine - you can always do it in the stable and dont get her body wet...

I washed my mare on Saturday - wish I hadn't done her neck as she got a bit cold, but we have to do their legs and bellies every day when they come in, and it's not a problem as long as you rug up afterwards. To just do her tail, keep her rug on but just fold it back over her bum so you don't get it wet.
If you're in a really exposed, windy place you could do it in her stable just using a couple of buckets. We had to do this at one yard where the tap was in the coldest, windiest part of the yard and washing any horse off in winter was dicing with death!

Nooo she'll be fine, if its just the ends or even half way up she won't hardly feel it, if your careful not get her dock wet and the back of her legs sodden and you do it over a bucket she'll be fine.
