Is melon ok for horses to eat?

well that is why I am asking

I wouldn't risk it if it was not on the 'list of things that are safe for horses to eat'

NB there are only a few chunks left but it is very sweet and juicy!

What is the wierdest thing your horses eat? I one knew a horse that was fed jam sandwiches to feed it it's medicine!

I used to have a Welsh Cob who loved a piece of chocolate cake and a cup of tea. I used to have to warn the farrier to be careful with his mug of tea or it would be stolen!

My very missed cob Toby would have sold his soul for a malted milk biscuit.......

ooo yeah malted milk biscuits! mouth watering now, I love those. Good taste little cob!

wonder if my cob will like melon? He once ate a bit of pastry that fell off a gregs pasty, he was licking his lips for ages and trying to steal the bag!

He also once stole a loaf of bread, in its packet but got hold of the end in his teeth and dragged in off the wall, bringing a load of other things with it - he jumped a mile, but never letting go of his prize! funniest thing, a cob with a hovis loaf dangling from its teeth!

It would be OK if they re-worded the 'was that so hard' bit! I think that's the bit that you could take offence at

To go back ON topic, I used to look after some donkeys that loved coca cola, and pot noodles, I lost my lunch to them once. The jenny also used to SUCK her wormer out of the syringe. Odd creatures.

I know an English lady who now lives in Spain with her 3 horses. Each year after the Melon harvest she gets loads of leftovers and gives them to the horses whole. They love to kick them around like footballs and then once they break they eat the them! They absolutely love them!

Melon is fine in Cyprus we used to give our horses watermelon including the skins and they loved it.....had fun cleaning off the sugar syrup that they managed to get all over their chests and legs too. When I am feeling flush I buy a section of watermelon and give it to Vardi to give him a little taste of the sun....

Just beware the sugary dribble it is hell to get out of your hair

There's a TB at my yard who will eat ANYTHING - he particularly likes ready salted crisps and pot noodles. I'm not brave enough to feed Scooby anything unusual in case I kill him.

Beacon would do anything for a shortcake biscuit and can of coke

once used black treacle sandwiches to load a naughty pony (old mounted police trick)

QR - I really can't understand people feeding their horses fizzy drinks....

Surely it's asking for digestion problems...?

Presumably only if fed in large quantities. My horses have had the odd sip of tea/coffee/coke/beer/WKD etc... I wouldn't give them the whole drink.

... Unless we're talking herbal teas (usually peppermint, sometimes calomile & honey) I make then forget about, then I use that instead of water to mix the feeds
