Is she too thin?

my boy has cushings. I get him tested twice a yr... hes on 2 tablets a day.. hes doing really well. vet is really pleased... I can see his ribs.. he weighs 312kg... hes 20 +yrs old.. trust me your mare looks fab for a cushings horse... :)

Thank you. Half of me is hoping her levels are up so I can treat her with more prascend and the laminitis will get better. But part of me hopes not! Her meds already cost around £80 per month. I am pleased your boy is doing well. I remember all the anguish you had with him.

thankyou... his bloods went off today.... vet said hes very slightly sore on his fronts. so doing a 4 day bute test...I pay £136.. every 2 months.. hes also IR but just treating that with diet and exercise.. he had very flat feet, so putting his shoes back on was the best thing for him... i'll post some pics of him...

Ingenius, Tango's Mum!

I had the Cushings test results back today and the level is 19.5, so absolutely normal. So she can stay on the one prascend a day. But of course, that means she remains a mystery. The vet agrees that she seems very happy, perky and reasonably comfortable in herself. Obviously, if that changes, then I probably have a very serious decision to make. But for now, she has some new easyboot trails with styrofoam pads, for when she is out in the paddock, and comes in the sand overnight. She certainly feels well enough to chase around the other horse that shares the sand with her .

Looking at your first pic & subsequent ones, I would say she looks absolutely fine as she is... My boy is 25 and was diagnosed with Cushings last year and put on Prascend in January. I've noticed he has lost a fair bit of weight & condition since being on the prascend but his quality of life has improved tenfold. So long as she is eating up, and interacting with the other horses, I wouldn't worry that she is a little on the lean side... I would far rather my boy was a bit on the lighter side weight wise and sound, than fat and falling prey to all sorts of other problems that cushings can present.. :)

Blimey, that is a really good reaction to the prascend. 371 is extremely high!

My vet did say there was another more accurate test, but as she is not even borderline, he said that it was probably a waste of time trying it. Especially as she no longer has symptoms (except the footiness of course).

If that's your boy on your banner, he's gorgeous. :)

I have just been out to see my mare in the paddock and she looks really comfortable in her new boots. Hopefully, if I keep her in those when she is not in the sand, things might improve.

Hehe!! Thanks, the boy in my banner is my new one and is only 3 but I like to think Benji is equally as cute!! :D

It's amazing the improvement they make once they've got hoof boots on! My boy was wearing Cavallos for a few months while he was barefoot... They were amazing!! Like little trainers! :)
