...than the way it feels when your dog greets you having not seen you for ages?

I had my puppy for the first three weeks to get him used to the house and the cats and the horses. For the last couple of weeks he has been going to stay with my OH from Monday to Friday (he works away and can take the dog in to work with him, so it’s his dog really). But I’m giddily looking forwards to seeing puppy tonight (well both of them!) as that greeting when he comes into the house and sees me is just amazing. It makes even this gloomy rainy miserable evening seem sunny! (Will see if I’m still saying that when I’m standing in the pouring rain waiting for him to pee!). The cats are less excited about his return, he likes to curl up on their beds, or as close to them as possible if they are already on their beds!

I love how they get so excited when you return, even after a short time. The last time I put mine in kennels it was chaos, they went ballistic!

I love how dogs get so excited when their owners come home! They make a house a home. My lot are so cute. They all have to bring toys, so get distracted and ignore me while tussling over a favourite toy, then one nicks a shoe and takes it out in the garden, drops it to look at the fish, they’re hilarious!

There is a dog boarding kennels very close to where I keep my ponies, and the ladies frequently walk the dogs in the field next to my horses' summer field. At the end of last summer I was taking down the electric fencing in my field ready to move them to their winter grazing, when this beautiful Alsatian appeared through the trees on the other side of my boundary fence. She took one look at me and went absolutely ballistic trying to get to me - she was barking frantically and trying to get over the fence but kept getting caught in the bushes. She went up and down the fence line, in and out of the stream and just seemed desperate to get to me. When the lady walking her came she couldn't get hold of her as the dog kept darting off then trying to get over the fence again. In the end I went over to my side of the fence and caught her easily and she seemed so happy to be with me! Me and the boarding kennel lady could only assume that I looked like her owner and I have to admit I felt a little jealous that she belonged to someone else. I don't think anyone has ever been quite so pleased to see me!

Yes it's amazing. Also that morning greeting...

"morning morning! It's morning, isn't that great?! Did I mention it's morning?!!! Isn't it great to be alive?!!!" [bounce bounce bounce bounce]

No. Being greeted by Stanley when I first come downstairs in the morning is just the best. He makes the funniest whiney growly noise, turns into a banana shape with the waggiest tail ever and always ends up on his back with all four paws in the air to have his tummy tickled.

Great photo - one HUGE dog!

I’ve not long come in. As I walked in the front door, both sitting there wiggling their bums as they wagged their tails. OH commented that he wondered what woke them up!

Am glad Luna doesn’t wet herself with the excitement any more :p

I must say, sometimes my lot just can’t be bothered! It’s usually when the OH gets home and they’re on their lovely bed, they just can’t be bothered to get up and make a fuss. I’m lucky that they’re generally up and awake when I come home, so I get the full waggly bum, excited to see me thing.

Dogs are the best.

^^^this!

The Westie always comes to greet (either of) us, if one has been on a night out and comes in late, despite being in bed she'll race downstairs to see us. Same when we had Woolfie, she used to wag her whole body when she saw us. I miss those days of being almost assaulted when I came home!
I'm sure the new puppy will be the same :)

My old dog died 9 years ago and I had forgotten the sheer joy on their faces when you walk into a room. As he is little I try not to over excite him when I greet him but when he comes in after a week away he is just so thrilled to see me again. Never fails to brighten my day.
