My old man is in a Masta I must have had about five years. BUT breathable rugs must be washed in a special non-detergent tech wash. You can get it mail order or buy it from a camping or outdoor shop. Ask for a wash for Gortex.
A yard washed one of my NZ rugs in detergent and it leaked ever after had to use as a stable rug.
This Rhino is the very best one I have found. The lightweight is strong, windproof and completely waterproof. I am delighted with mine - in its third year - and there are another four on our yard!
I reccomend the Amigo 100% Jack has had his 2 years, it survived the torrential floods and rain of 2007, and its still going strong, we did buy the 1200denier as opposed to the 600denier, which Iam lead to believe is not as good, one of the best rugs we have bought, in fact it just gone today to be washed as he is in his heavy weight now, so the light weight will be put to bed for the winter!!

Yep, I have that Rhino as my lw turnout. I normally buy Rambos but was feeling the pinch when I needed a new lw - it has been brilliant.
My amigo lasted 2 years and then leaked like a sieve. Same with my weatherbeeta. I think most polyester rugs just give up after a while.
I have 3 Amigo LW's and the rest of the yard also have the same rugs. I have washed mine loads of times but always in the nixwax rugwash stuff. They have never let the wet through and mine are the 600d as I found the 1200 too warm for summer. Can't recommend them enough, + Throstle nest had them for less than £30 last time I checked.
Fals are great I have the warrior (the cheap one) and it's never leaked in 5 years. I read somewhere that it's the very slight bit of filling in them that makes them more waterproof. If the lining is in direct contact with the outder layer the rain soaks through, the little bit of filling helps to keep the layers apart. It also helps with breathability apparently.
My Premier Equine is about 7 or 8 years old and it doesn't leak - I have it washed and re - proofed every year. The same for my Shires - the last one was at least 15 years old when it finally died and was still good.
I have had a lightweight Rambo original for 10 years and it only started to leak for the very first time this summer - after 10 years of use! I have just replaced it with exactly the same Rambo.
I know they are expensive but I love these rugs especially when they last 10 years!
