Is there an easier way to do this?

My gelding is currently out at night with three Shetlands and in a bare patch at the bottom of the field with one Shetland with soaked hay during the daytime. The other two shetlands (who belong to my friend) stay out on the grass.

It's a bit of a drama when it comes to separating them in the mornings and I seem to spend ages walking up and down the field! At the moment I catch my gelding and put him the bare patch then run back to the top of the field to get his soaked hay (he will jump out if he doesn't have company/food) and put that in with him. I then have to catch one of my friends Shetland as she is completely attached to my shettie and will chase mine away so I can't get her! I put her in the field shelter which is the other end of the field, then catch mine walk her back down the other end to go in with my gelding and then back up the top to let my friends Shetland (who goes mad!) out again. Whilst all this is going on my friends other shettie (who is impossible to catch) runs around neighing as he can't cope without his friend but still refuses to be caught.

I just seem to spend my time running back and forth in an attempt to stop everyone getting upset.

Can anyone see if I am missing anything here to make it easier?Any ideas.

Oh and I don't put the hay in first as they will all race behind me and try and break into the bare patch (one of the Shetlands in an expert at this).

I am dreading having to deal with this before work every morning!

Thanks :)
