Is there any point in me clipping at the moment?

Well my horse more resembles a woolly mammoth at the moment and I was originally planning on a blanket clip as he was worked regularly and those were his worst sweaty patches.

However, with it now dark ridiculously early I am unable to ride most days. So I can only now school once a week. Hack twice at the weekend and a quick 'spin around the block' one other day. He DOES get sweaty but its not hard work due to shortage of time.

So my question is - Is there any point in clipping?

Thanks

I think you have to weigh up just how sweaty he gets and whether you can dry him sufficiently to rug him after you have ridden and make him comfortable. Why not wait and see how he goes? Perhaps you don't need to take off as much as a blanket clip, low trace instead?

If he is getting sweaty then just do a low chaser clip or low trace clip! As already said to enable you to rug him once you have finished. U are lucky to ride at all my horse doesn't get ridden at all unless I'm on late shift and can ride in the mornings :(. I hate winter.

So you ride him approximately 4 times a week? If so then I would clip him, my TB only gets ridden 4 or 5 times a week and he has a blanket, soon to be hunter clip. It got to the stage where I couldn't exercise him in the way I wanted as he was getting far to sweaty and unfortunately I don't have the time to dry him off with walking off, rugs etc.

I know horses that are only ridden once or twice a week with hunter and full clips, as long as you rug them sufficiently I don't see a problem in it.
