Is there REALLY much difference?? Mares Vs Geldings..

I previously have struggled with mares, as you have to handle them a bit more sensitively I think however my mare now is amazing. She is tough as old boots, and can be tricky, but she trusts me, and she tries our heart out for me. The instructor actually commented on how much she tries on a lesson recently. Yes, she has her moments, but mares are far superior to geldings IMHO. But, it depends on the horse/person combo......

Eh.. depends on the mare. Love stallions and geldings. One of the stallions I ride is a bit slow and irritating at times but that is just him taking the micky. I get on with most geldings and prefer the more spirited geldings.

I have a mare and a gelding. Out of both I prefer the gelding.

Only because the mare is a stroppy, opinionated cow who never comes into season so probably has built up tension. However, 2 years later we seem to be getting somewhere.

I have ridden some darn lovely mares, one quite recently - a 4 year old broken in by my instructor, she was lovely. Bit small but lovely.

I would say, one thing that has gone wrong is I will hack any horse on the road however hacking my own mare on the road actually terrifies me. She is horrific in traffic and when I first got her it was fine, 2 years on I just want to smack her and tell her to grow the hell up, nothing has or ever will happen to her on the road, it makes me tense just taking her out especially as I know she's taking the piss and not even scared, I would understand a tractor but we are talking about your average Nissan crawling at 30 here.
