Just went on to browse horses for sale (as you do) and saw this ad

I never quite get why people keep breeding and breeding dogs when there just seem to be far too many abandoned dogs about. Plus, these are surely going to be big, strong dogs (as sweet and fluffy as they look now) who will need some firm handling.

Do people just like coming up with 'new breeds'? What is it these days about putting two words/names together to make one?!

Not sensible in the slightest - spitz-y type dogs are becoming the new GSD/rottie/SBT, aren't they? :(

There really is nothing complementary about that cross at all. Ready to go on Christmas eve?

Not just me then - seems bonkers! Plus, the whole xmas gift suggestion just makes you want to scream. Hmm yes, lovely fluffy puppy but give it 6mths............! I despair sometimes.

Crazy! If the breeders of the dam are well known as stated (no idea about husky breeders) I imagine they won't be very happy about their name being used like this.

Looking at those puppies faces, and importantly at their very young age, then they're going to need some very serious handling.

The specialist treatment, which they will need, will not be available from the likely buyers, unless they are very fortunate, and they probably wont receive that, for the simple reason that the experienced, will steer well clear.

A very sad post, but thank you, none the less, ladyt25.

Alec.

Ets, having looked at the pic, once again, there MAY be one of them which I could warm to, but as I have no use for it, then NO!! a.

i hate opening posts like this!... makes me mad

they will be nuts with the wrong handling... akita/husky??? guard/working breeds - well done

I can't believe someone would cross these 2 breeds! Both breeds are deemed 'professionals' dogs which require sensitive and disciplined handling, they are not your average 'joe bloggs' "pets"!

I have had dogs all my life, and I really wanted an Akita, but my OH is very new to dog ownership, so I opted for a more 'user' friendly breed.

Akitas and Husky's are not very sociable with other dogs - I hope that whoever buys these puppies does their homework and researches both these breeds beforehand

One of the rescues I support will not take Akitas, because they are generally owned and ruined by little scrotes who give them a ten minute bimble around the block on a short chain lead, then shut them in a yard for the rest of the day, then chuck them when they get so wound up they start trashing the place and trying to eat everyone.
By the time they were getting to the rescue place, their only entertainment was jumping and grabbing at people, and the kennel staff were getting hurt.
And still the hooky breeders churn out more, and still the scrotes buy them when they are pups and chuck them when their brains start developing :(

Its all about the handler. I've met more akitas that were wonderful with dogs than i have JRT. My box is part Akita and we currently have an akita foster here.

I have to admit when i first got Abe i was a little worried at his cross but after having him and working closely now with the Akita rescue i don't think i will ever be without.

I have no idea about akitas but you are very wrong there about huskies.

Apologies, I stand corrected. I was repeating what I was once told........

I firmly believe that if you socialise any breed of dog correctly and from a young age, then they will get along fine with other dogs, but some breeds are less sociable by nature....

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are supposed to be anti social with other breeds, but mine was THE most friendly dogs you would ever come across.

The point is they look cute so will sell, and oh what fun they will become, indeed neither breed is for the first time owner IMO, even more so one that will not educate themsleves to help the dog out on that journey to adulthood, you do need to work doubly hard to socialise the akita, they are a naturally dominant breed and can therofor be a nightmare to handle around other dogs when not socialised to the extreme, and because they can do such extreme damage and punch well above their own weight they really should never end up in the wrong hands and even the bitches of this breed will give the males a run for their money, thing is with the training of them there is little room for error, 2 breeds with a strong and keen hunt instinct and stubborn to boot with non existent recall in most cases, akitas do indeed make fab dogs (in not even going to say family pet) in the right firm hands, otherwise you in trouble.
I love my akita and will prob always have one....do I recommend them as pets "Nope".

But they are fluffy they will sell:rolleyes: how many will remain in that home for life, I will guess 1 maybe 2.

Cayla i am totally in love with our foster boy!
I am at my zone limit of dogs here now so i am trying to force myself to keep him up for adoption so i can continue to foster but its really really hard when he is snuggled up with Abe by the fire.

Mahalo may have found a home so as much as i thought i was going to keep him its such a good home for him i may just let him go and keep the Akita boy (no name yet)

Where are my pics, how long have u have him:eek: how dare u keep this from me, no one here has an akita but me, so no breed chat (and u are keeping yours secret)

Pics please.....sort of...now please.

I will post pics tomorrow as soon as i get home (travelling).
We have only had him less than a week, no issues so far.
The more i am around the breed the more i see that Abe is pretty like them personality wise he just has an intense herding drive on top.

Why is there no report button on HM? They are claiming they are available on xmas eve but that they are 1m old - it's illegal to sell pups less than 6 weeks old!!!

Yes and it can have a very bad affect on the pups as the 6 week period is the time they get to understand about litter mates and how to behave. Funny saw the program "Its me of the dog" a few months ago it was about a husky who had been sold as a puppy at 4 weeks old. Poor lad. But people dont understand and buy them at that age. These websites need to take responsiblity for adverts and should put terms and conditions into place as much as possible.

In no way would I have either of these two breeds, let alone a cross of both of them. BUT, if what they say is true, I don't see a problem with the advert. So, they are ready xmas eve (today), they can't help being born 7-8 weeks ago (they look older than a month btw). The advert states they are happy to keep pups subject to deposit, til after xmas/new year. Whats wrong with that? Sounds sensible!
We all are aware that any dog of this size will need some firm handling, so lets hope that the breeder can 'vet' the potential owner and the pups will go to a good active home. Not an advert that needs complaining about IMO.

Why cross breed these dogs? I just dont get it? If you have a good stud dog you dont put it to a different breed - no need to. Far from every dog is suitable for breeding. Its clearly seen that people are getting dogs of different breeds breeding for the sake of money just to make money. Sorry but you dont pay pedigree prices for mixed breed dogs. Hate the way the puppy farms and in fact every tom dick and dog owner is now jumping on this money making scheme.

A responsible breeder would never plan a litter to be ready on Christmas eve - the type of people who buy a puppy for Christmas are the type of people who will dump it or try to flog it on a couple of months later when it is peeing and crapping everywhere and starting to seriously 'mouth' their kids.

These same numpty buyers are not generally aware of the needs of these kind of dogs. It's an absolutely unreasonable cross anyway, clearly geared towards the 'ooh, I want a wolf' brigade, a large guarding/fighting dog crossed with a hardwired sled dog...
