Is this a sensible cross??

A responsible breeder would never plan a litter to be ready on Christmas eve - the type of people who buy a puppy for Christmas are the type of people who will dump it or try to flog it on a couple of months later when it is peeing and crapping everywhere and starting to seriously 'mouth' their kids.

That's not necessarily true. I'm sure there are plenty of experienced dog owners and handlers who would buy a puppy at Christmas time as much as any other.

I agree with All Gone Crackers - I think there are potentially lots of problems here, but nobody knows for sure that the sellers aren't carefully vetting homes. There are always numpties, particularly at Christmas time, I agree - but there is no reason to assume that the breeders will allow the puppies to go to unsuitable homes.

I don't actually think the puppies are a month old, I'd guess that is just all the settings on horsemart set at minimum.

Absolutely this cross would result in a dog that is difficult and even dangerous in the wrong hands, but I don't personally see the problem with the cross itself, provided the breeders are conscientious in the homes they choose.

Oh dear god.............

I don't know a lot about Akita's other than they can be aggressive towards other dogs but also quite guarding of people. Huskies I do know a lot about. Crossing these two breeds would be risky. You risk a dog with a strong hunting instinct and aggressive tendancies. In fact, I think crossing Huskies with anything is a bad idea. They don't make the best pets at all.

As said, the pups can't help being born but the breeders certainly could have avoided it. Evie is very regularly in season, in August and February, if I do decide to have a litter from her I have already decided it will be from the February season as an August mating would result in puppies ready to rehome around Christmas, something I would not do.
I consider myself an experienced dog owner, but I would avoid having a pup at Christmas time, with the best will in the world it is impossible to give a new pup the time for house training etc with all the comings and goings of Christmas.

I think this is a match made in hell and the pups would be totally unsuitable for inexperienced buyers. The line stating the pups will be ready to go on Christmas Eve leaves me cold, no self respecting breeder would allow puppies to go to their new homes until well after the Christmas holidays. Genuine breeders of either breed would be horrified to see this ad.

One of the rescues I support will not take Akitas, because they are generally owned and ruined by little scrotes who give them a ten minute bimble around the block on a short chain lead, then shut them in a yard for the rest of the day, then chuck them when they get so wound up they start trashing the place and trying to eat everyone.
By the time they were getting to the rescue place, their only entertainment was jumping and grabbing at people, and the kennel staff were getting hurt.
And still the hooky breeders churn out more, and still the scrotes buy them when they are pups and chuck them when their brains start developing :(

Akitas terrify me. I am biased, I admit, but I have only met one that was kept as a family pet. He had no facial expression, and so hard to tell whether he wanted to lick you or bite you. He was ultra possessive over toys, and when you put a lead on he went to bite you. He got me on my thigh, and I have no doubt if I had told him off he would have gone for me. Instead I put his lead on, and we walked for miles. Came back, happy tired dog. But when he wasn't walked, and was allowed to walk round with childrens arms in his mouth as "fun"
I'm not fab with collies either having been bitten through my hand and ear by one which was PTS after due to there being young children in the family, but I am getting there now

But thats not the dogs fault! Thats irresponsible, idiotic owners.

I've only met one akita and I too couldn't 'get' his body language, like brighthair said they don't have much facial expression (from my admittedly limited experience) and I can easily see how that could go terribly wrong.

Huskies at least wear their hearts on their sleeves, why you'd want to potentially introduce an even more aloof and independent streak than they already have is beyond me a bit.

These are being advertised in my local paper at the moment, another Christmas litter of wolf-y pups with unknown history.

I grew up around dogs (we had a red setter and an alsation) and my grandad bred pitbulls - must find photo of me as a baby in a basket of puppies! But I can usually tell whether a dog wants to say hello, or take my arm off and this one was a complete shock. Sat there wagging his tail with a toy, one movement and there was this horrendous low growl and bark, stepped back and he got me :(
