bonkers YO takes a livery's (DIY) horse out of the field without permision and hacks at his (lovely long thick) feathers with a pair of scissors because she "thinks" he has lice :mad:

what would you do , this isn't my horse but a good friends and she is understandably very upset and wants to sue YO is this even possible ?
 
yep :)

horse is a clydie x cob and has the thickest , longest feathers you have seen or at least he did have
tbh if she had taken my horse out the field and hogged him i'd be foaming too , she has no right to do that , they are going to take at least a year to grow back he's a right mess
she may calm down but at this very moment she does want to sue her or kill her but thats not really appropriate :o
 
Is it a show horse? if not I would be moving yard, tidying it up so looks 'respectable'. If it is a show horse then more of a reason to be annoyed as would rightly affect any showing results until regrown BUT I'm not sure that it would be considered criminal damage!

he only really went to the occasional local show but that is now out of the question
impossible to tidy it up without taking the lot off it really is a right mess
i am trying to calm her down but she is determined she is suing her
 
She must be devastated but unlikely she could sue, tell her not to waste her energy. It will cost her money and unlikely to make it to court as it is cosmetic.

I got to the yard to find that my H/W trad cob mare had had this done to her by my very well meaning friend. It was a real 'ta daaaaa' moment and I could have cried, but she was so well meaning I didn't have the heart to be too cross. I was horrified though, made me sad.

its far worse than that though , ill try and put one of the pics on she has sent me i'm sure she won't mind
 
I was upset when the YO cut the long hairs round my horses eyes. She had an open day and didn't think he looked neat enough for the public to see.
I gave my notice the next day. Never did tell the bitch why I was going!
 
Bloody hell. Why on earth did the YO think she could do that to someone else's horse????

I would be very angry if someone had the nerve to do that to my boy's feathers!

Doubt she will be able to sue though.

It's not criminal damage because it's not permanent and the police would just look a bit confused if she tried to press charges. Unless the horse is a show ring champion going out to national stuff, I really doubt she'll get anywhere. Bit mad to want to sue, IMO. Feathers grow back. I'd move yards, though, because god knows what the YO would do next!

Sorry, this made me laugh.:o:D Well done for not losing it. When my DD was younger she cut her ponies tail above the hocks.:mad: It did grow out.

I can laugh about it now but it took a few days for me to let it go, I didn't let her know I was too cross, just made a comment or two that she was never allowed near the scissors again. I have just posted that pic to Facebook and tagged her in it saying that I just found it on my phone and it made me laugh although I did do a little cry at the time. She is such a lovely lady you couldn't possibly get cross.

Sorry to hijack Op, just a perfect opportunity for a picture and I've recently learnt how to post them :p

I would have cried but for the fact its so incredibly neat and perfect... must have taken her hours! And obviously done with the best of intentions.

How long did they take to look normal again?

This looks like a pudding bowl haircut. :eek: Could you perhaps do something to make the edges look less sharp (Use scissors at an angle to make the ends more wispy). Hairdressers call the technique feathering I think.

Sorry, I hijacked OP's thread. This was my version of a friend giving my mare a suprise make over. This was over a year ago so all done now!

Completely outrageous. How could any YO think they could do that? Mites or not! I'd be off without paying my bill!

she did both the backs and fronts , there both equally as bad , i thought i'd uploaded photo's of both the front and the back legs but i think there pic's of the fronts

I'd be hysterical.

I nearly had a coronary a few weeks ago when I came home from uni to find that a well meaning friend had decided to cut and 'trim' my horse's forelock (which I was growing longer!!).

If that was my horse sadly I wouldn't be as understanding as most here, I would actually most likely butcher her horses mane/feathers in return to see how she likes it, and if she said anything I'd play the "Oh, I thought that he had mites" card. And then leave without paying any bills and leaving as much mess and inconvenience in my wake as possible!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was done out of jealousy to be honest.
 
oh hell, what a mess :( poor lady, but just to be devils advocate............ i was a YO, I had one livery who would drive me mad, her horse was obese, so I put him in fat paddock, she then in hand grazed him in all the lush grass, he had mites, she would not treat them. In rubbing his legs he destroyed my post and rail fencing. He had lice, he smashed my post and rail fencing around my trees, which i was growing to provide shelter in the fields. He then ate all my saplings in the area he had destroyed. Again his owner did nothing. I asked her to treat his mites, she didn;t, the damage got worse. eventually I had to do the 'treat your horses mites or leave' conversation. She did nothing so I told her to go. it took her 12 weeks to go, and in that 12 weeks her and her OH were revolting, and her horse did so much damage. I was so close to actually doing the treatment myself! Perhaps your YO has reached that stage.

well that ^ would be a sensible way to approach the situation , i can understand it isn't easy being a YO when a livery doesn't look after there horse but my friend bathed her horse the day before and washed his legs thoroughly , she takes a lot of pride in his feathers

i used to be at this yard and also had problems
 
Would people be ok with a YO leaving a horse distressed and rubbing itself raw, in need of treatment?

Not saying that was the case of your friend OP, but some people harp on about YOs not stepping up to the mark and yet when they do take action they are threatened with violence?!

Feathers are only hair, they will grow back.
 
Agreed, if it turns out that this horse has a horrendous infestation that has been repeatedly ignored and YO has warned of this course of action then, although not rrreeeaaallly acceptable, it's a different matter. Doesn't sound like that is the case though?
