Most of us here are not vets and I would not write a horse off without seeing it in the flesh.
Agreed. The Easterbys are very close to us so I often see their "sale out of racing" ads and the horses are always cheap. £1500 is a pretty standard price, so not in itself suspicious. And despite all my various issues with the racing industry the Easterbys do seen quite switched on re selling into suitable homes. Why is she worth more??? Exracehorses aren't going for much anyway.
Toe first landing behind.
Doesn’t mean much but she was £42,000 in the April 2022 breeze up sales. Someone has spent quite a bit of money and time on her in the three years since.
She isn't worth more and won't be until she is re educated. The Easterby's are taking a far more responsible route in re homing their owners useless racehorses than many trainers do. They are taking the time to actively advertise and find suitable homes rather than simply sending the horses through the sales. She is a mare with substance who would have only been ridden in straight line, had a good period out of work in foal/nursing and never seen the racecourse so she should be far easier to rehab than an established racehorse with dozens of starts under its belt and its brain fried.Which is probably why they only want £1.5k for her. How can you tell that all she needs is time? That may be true, or it may not, but they aren't going to sell a horse like that for peanuts it's worth more.
I watch them walking around the paddock on tv and always think they look odd/stilted behind. When I watch racehorses on TV walking round the paddock before the race I often think they move strangely behind. I assume it's the camera angle or something. Interesting that this mare moves in a similar way, only its not the TV camera creating the illusion this time. Do race bred TBs have a slightly unique hind leg action anyway? Even when not lame? It looks to me like they don't really bend the stifle and hock and all the action is coming from the hip.
The paddock walkways are a spongy surface which seems to make the stride look a bit odd for lots of horses.I watch them walking around the paddock on tv and always think they look odd/stilted behind.
She looks a lovely mare - a little bargy and uneducated but, like others have said, the videos aren’t that good - not a proper trot up. If I was looking, I would definitely go look at her.
Exactly this. For that money she's worth a look and some time in the field could do her the world of good. I have seen horses advertised at 10k move worse that that too!!What a lovely looking mare, she's a cracking type!
There is no way to accurately judge her soundness based off those 2 videos, it would not be a fair assessment as she isn’t being run up properly and she's clearly very tense. Yes, I'd want to have a much better look at her soundness behind, but for £1500 I'd probably pop and see her and make my own assessment
Wh
Why ?
The Easterby's are actively looking for a home for her, they have forgotten more than most people will ever know about keeping horses. She is only rising 6, a strong type with very nice breeding. All she needs is a bit of time and an owner used to TB's.
I saw an advert on FB in the week for a horse that was mid-teens five figures that was much lamer than this in the ridden video - not that that makes it okay of course, but its absolutely insane what people don't see. Surely you'd look at that sales video before posting and think 'god, best not put this up' even if you don't feel it ridden.Exactly this.
