Is this horse lame?

Why is she worth more??? Exracehorses aren't going for much anyway.
Agreed. The Easterbys are very close to us so I often see their "sale out of racing" ads and the horses are always cheap. £1500 is a pretty standard price, so not in itself suspicious. And despite all my various issues with the racing industry the Easterbys do seen quite switched on re selling into suitable homes.

Doesn’t mean much but she was £42,000 in the April 2022 breeze up sales. Someone has spent quite a bit of money and time on her in the three years since.

Unfortunately it really doesn't. I bought a 40k yearling who was 6ft under by 7 years old. I love, love, love ex-racers and will undoubtably have another at some point, but money really does not equal longevity in the racing world.

Which is probably why they only want £1.5k for her. How can you tell that all she needs is time? That may be true, or it may not, but they aren't going to sell a horse like that for peanuts it's worth more.
She isn't worth more and won't be until she is re educated. The Easterby's are taking a far more responsible route in re homing their owners useless racehorses than many trainers do. They are taking the time to actively advertise and find suitable homes rather than simply sending the horses through the sales. She is a mare with substance who would have only been ridden in straight line, had a good period out of work in foal/nursing and never seen the racecourse so she should be far easier to rehab than an established racehorse with dozens of starts under its belt and its brain fried.

The videos are rubbish but if you are local enough she would be worth seeing in the flesh. She would be £800 sent through the sales with Irish Horse Imports buying her and re advertising 24 hours later for 4k with the sales sticker still on her backside.

When I watch racehorses on TV walking round the paddock before the race I often think they move strangely behind. I assume it's the camera angle or something. Interesting that this mare moves in a similar way, only its not the TV camera creating the illusion this time. Do race bred TBs have a slightly unique hind leg action anyway? Even when not lame? It looks to me like they don't really bend the stifle and hock and all the action is coming from the hip.
I watch them walking around the paddock on tv and always think they look odd/stilted behind.

She looks a lovely mare - a little bargy and uneducated but, like others have said, the videos aren’t that good - not a proper trot up. If I was looking, I would definitely go look at her.

The paddock walkways are a spongy surface which seems to make the stride look a bit odd for lots of horses.

What a lovely looking mare, she's a cracking type!
There is no way to accurately judge her soundness based off those 2 videos, it would not be a fair assessment as she isn’t being run up properly and she's clearly very tense. Yes, I'd want to have a much better look at her soundness behind, but for £1500 I'd probably pop and see her and make my own assessment
Exactly this. For that money she's worth a look and some time in the field could do her the world of good. I have seen horses advertised at 10k move worse that that too!!

Wh

Why ?
The Easterby's are actively looking for a home for her, they have forgotten more than most people will ever know about keeping horses. She is only rising 6, a strong type with very nice breeding. All she needs is a bit of time and an owner used to TB's.

Because she is a beautiful horse and has some kind of issue.
I’m not dissing Easterbys at all. I know they are a great yard.
It’s always sad If such a nice stamp has soundness issues, seems such a waste…

I have the most gorgeous, sadly knackered TB who came out of racing, he had a slight issue, which it turned out was in fact a huge issue, maybe I’m being over sensitive but you see it so much.

I saw an advert on FB in the week for a horse that was mid-teens five figures that was much lamer than this in the ridden video - not that that makes it okay of course, but its absolutely insane what people don't see. Surely you'd look at that sales video before posting and think 'god, best not put this up' even if you don't feel it ridden.

Some people just do not see it. I know people with ADHD have a huge advantage as our brains are hard wired to see patterns, which is effectively what a sound moving horse is. But I honestly don't get it. How can people not find it jarring and off. I very rarely bother to work out what the issue is, I don't have mine own, cant afford to have another so its not important, but a quick look and I can see something is off and that's all you really need to know when your looking to buy. I don't need to analyse it and find the exact issue.

Given the recent lameness with my dog it was really surprising that the vet couldn't see it at all and just fobbed me off, the physio could see something but didn't know where it was, I was just in freefall as he wasn't right and I couldn't get any help, I knew what I was seeing but was too close to the situation to calmly work it out. Took an ex member, tarrsteps, for those who remember her, 15 seconds to look at a video and pin point the lameness as being his back. My osteo who is genuinely gifted, watched him trot up and back and told me exactly where it was, 2 places rather than 1, how it had probably happened and how we fixed it. The same osteo took one look at me, when I was there for the dog, and asked how I'd gotten whiplash. I'd been in a car accident but hadn't mentioned it to him and it actually wasn't bothering me very much that day. He freaks me out a bit sometimes! He says sometimes it feels like the animals talk to him. I don't think they do in a psychic way, I think the talk through the way they move and stand etc, and for him its so clear that it feels like communication.

Obviously the 2 people who saw it are hugely experienced, but I think some people can just see these things and others cant even if they really want to. You can teach people to look for a hip drop, or to look at foot placement till the cows some home and it still just doesn't compute for some.
