In my yard, ready to be taken up to the tip/recycling plant/whatever you call them these days, I have a pile of old saddle cloths and rugs

None of them are really damaged, but most of them are pretty old and manky - the rugs have got rusty buckles and are pretty stinky, and the saddlecloths - all accumulated over many years - are faded and very un-smart

When we moved house before, we donated all our pony rugs to a local riding school, but this stuff is in generally worse condition; I cant envisage even a riding school being overly chuffed with it. Am I doing the right thing in chucking it all out?! It just seems......sad.....

Do you have any charities nearby? They might have a use for them, partiuclarly as we're just coming in to winter.

I think the rugs I'm getting rid of are 5'9....they're really not good ones though, otherwise I would be keeping them! My first thought was of a charity, but I honestly dont know whether they'd feel they are really useable

Plus there are more numnahs and saddlecloths than there are rugs....

One man's rubbish is another man's treasure!

Why not use your local ad's for them, maybe in piles and if you don't need the money, donate it to charity. Or you could donate them all to a charity/sanctuary near you. Even re homing kennels would be glad of the blankets.

Then again, there is the good old ebay, maybe rugs in couples of similar sizes/types. I'm sure someone will want them for something - and sacrilegious? Too right!

Why not list them in PMs (that way admin won't go mad!) and anyone interested can get in touch with you?

oww to big

im sure charities would love to have the rugs, and maybe if you have a riding for disabeld(sp-i really cant spell) near you, maybe they would like numnahs?

Hmmm, I'm thinking you might be right, all of you! There are couple of riding schools nearby, one which is definitely RDA, so it might be worth a knock on the door! I will have a sift through it all later and see whether it really is good enough to pass on.

MFH_09 - honestly dont think anyone would give me money for any of it! I wish they would - I am rather skint - but I would be a fool to list it on ebay...

"Stinking, rusty old Rhinegold Rug, numerous repair jobs, makes your horse sweat like crazy no matter how cold it is outside. You'll never be able to get this one clean, no matter how hard you try! Oh yes, and it isnt waterproof either, so be prepared for a soggy, peed off horsey!"

and

"Pile of stinky, dirty, faded old numnahs. Heavily used, showing major signs of wear though as yet, no tear....."
