Unfortunatley a lot of riding schools around this way are like this. The one I started at was amazing, you learnt your basic position in walk and trot, and you had to know your diagonals before being let off the LR. I went there for years and went from riding a 14.2hh connie learning the basics myself to jumping their ex racer and being let to take him for canters round the tracks once they knew I had a secure position and understanding of the aids. They run pony weeks where you learnt about stable management, ailments and illnesses and how to treat them etc. People leaving were fully prepared and able to own a horse / pony
Unfortunatley the riding school changed hands many years ago and is now a very run down and un proffesional establishment
