Is your horse freezemarked? If so, where?

My horse is already microchipped but I am thinking of getting him freezemarked too, but can't decide if I would prefer it on his back or shoulder?

If your horse is done, where did you opt for and why? Did you have a custom made mark or just a random one?

Pictures if possible too :)

Yes, my horse has been freezemarked since she was three. It was done under her saddle - partly because I was intending to show her and it does look a little unsightly on the shoulder, but most because she is a coloured mare and both her shoulders are white so I had it done where it would actually show up.

Yes, on her shoulder because
a) my well respected vet who specialised in back problems was against marking in the saddle area as he believed they may be affected adversely and
b) It was visible when being ridden and if she had the misfortune to be stolen I'd want the mark easily visible, not hidden away under a saddle.

I just had a random mark as custom ones weren't offered then. :)

My old mare and tb are under the saddle

Appy is on his shoulder but as he is white is hard to read, he had his done before we got him.

I had a personal mark PUD2 and went for under the saddle :)

I had a personalised one on my coloured its in the same place and the first coloured pic. Farmkey were very good they had to come out 3 times in the end as it didn't take but to be honest I do wish I didn't do it as it is a complete mess. They didn't put the iron on the same places so two letters are wonky. I show him so find it very annoying. I wouldn't do it again

yes i had my boy done shortly before he went on loan when i went to university
he was done on the shoulder, as he had to have less time off. just had a random mark.

Hearing things like this really puts me off :(

just to add that my boy was a little terror while they were doing him, but his actually took first time really well :) i wouldnt let something like that put you off doing it.

I had another one done at the same time it did have to be done once more also but it looked fine. I was probably just unlucky but its typical they mess up on the one I show!

My coloured 4yr old had it done on his shoulder as that was the only place with a coloured patch big enough. He is mainly white with pink skin so it was quite hard finding a place to put it.

I've not heard of this before, do you have any further information on this?

At the time I didn't question it further (stupidly!) He's now retired so I can't ask him.
That being said I know plenty of horses that are marked on their backs without issues, and I haven't heard of any other vet objecting, but it influenced me at the time.

Mine's done on his shoulder. I had it done there as I had a previous one done under his saddle and some of the hair didn't grow back leaving a bald patch which sometimes got sore when he was ridden.

I have all of mine microchipped and freezemark, all 5 of them on the saddle area and only have 1 with a personalised mark (M8RL for Merlin) this is because Im not very inventive amd at an extra £25 a marking works out a rather expensive extra when you have 5 done
Only issues Ive had is they all needed redoing at some point but that is free of charge in the 1st 12 months with farmkey and my skewbald's isnt centre of his marking that its on (but thats what I get for leaving hubby up there whilst it was being done with me at home watching the kids!)

All 3 of mine are done with personalised marks. 2 have them on the shoulder but the most recent one was done on the saddle area.

I had my boy freezemarked on his shoulder as was visible when ridden. Don't see the point in freezemarking and hiding it.

Mine is microchipped a d freeze marked he was freeze marked at two so it didn't affect him having time off or anything and I had it done under the saddle just had a randomn one but it's quite suits him its. Bf9 and I think of him as a BFg so quite fitting

My TB is freeze marked on his shoulder, on his passport it says he was freeze marked prior to going to Hong Kong - he's a well travelled boy! Have to say it doesn't bother me at all it being there
