Are you worried? Or am I worrying about nothing and being a wuss??? It is so low the lightning at the moment I am tempted to drive down and get him in!!! I know, silly. Was worried about the dog too but she has slept through most of it although admittedly every time it gets bad, chooses her bedroom basket instead of the lounge basket (isnt that closer to the noise and lights?!)
 
Our horses come in during the day, went to turn them out at normal time and they refused to go out, has been raining all day in southwest, so they are nicly tucked up in a cosy stable.
 
mine are out. not the least worried.
but if youre really worried set your own mind at rest and fetch your guy in, he might not thank you for it though

Seriously? They "refused to go out"??! Sounds intriguing. Hmmm I heard it was moe dangerous to keep them in for fear of an accident but I am terrified of him out in the lightning as I know someone on here who has lost 2 horses to lightning flashes. Maybe I should finish my wine and go to bed and try to sleep

Its not thundering or lightning here at moment,
but your not the only one who worries. last week i was laid in my bed listening to thunder, and my room kept lighting up with lightning, I couldnt stop thinking about Roo, and thinking what if.
I was at the yard last week when there was lightning, and i stood at gate watching her for about an hour to make sure she was ok.

mine stay out in it, i kno its a bit contravertial (sp) but i'd rather them be out and able to react, like run if they get a fright. i get worried they spook in the stable and hurt themselves

I'm not sure if I should go get fly rugs and masks off...and worried about them being struck by lightning, but know the risk is similar if they are in.
 
dont see why it would be contravertial (sp)?


mine all live out now anyway, some of them always have, so i dont have the option of bringing them in anyhow, though i wouldnt
 
Lucy stays out in it to but i worry about her. I am terrified of thunder and always worryed but a few years ago 2 horses in the village i lived in got killed by a strike so now i worry even more. but i would still worry if she was in as the stable may be struck! Everyone says i worry to much about everything though!
 
No storms here but the rain has been torrential - everything is sopping wet and drenched through

The forecast for tonight and tomorrow is just as bad so I brought them in the for the night - they are totally miserable being constantly wet and cold. Soon as they heard my car come up the drive they were at the gate begging to come in - poor things.

Can't believe I am using precious shavings and hay in July

my girly also tucked up in her stable, and i'm pleased she is, as we had a bad thunder storm here, and it's still very very heavy rain. much rather her in than out.

Good response I agree but others will say what about running into fencing. Nice to know that some people are letting them be horses. Meant in the nicest way before anyone jumps on me.
 
Mine is out tonight. I stupidly forgot to watch the weather forcast today and was told by a friend that there would just be rain. I dread to think what state he will be in tomorrow as he hates this weather and he's lost enough weight as it is

He's not great in rain but much worse with thunder and lightning.
 
No storms forecasted here, but if there was, she would be out. I too would prefer that if she was scared, she could run away from it so to speak, instead of panicking in a box about a noise she can hear but can't see. She is best out where she can see and react.
 
my boys are in at the moment (usually out at night), they went out at 4 and got them in at 9. Would leave them out but 2 nights ago I couldnt sleep worrying about them so went out in pissing rain/lightening in my nighty wellies and long coat to get them in at 2AM!!!! yes 2AM!
Not doing that again tonight!

Sure they would be ok but I wouldnt sleep too well as would worry about them so it is more for my benefit than theirs!!!!
 
mine are out, two without rugs one with a light weight on, no guilt my welsh loves the rain and loves a storm!! the TB not so pleased about it, the warmblood prob hasnt stopped eating, i do worry, but it would be such a freak accident i no it does happen but the thought of mucking out on a fri morning mid july would definatly delay drinking time on the friday night!

im so mean my Tb would love an owner to bring her in, esp right now... wildpoppywild i like to think along the same lines that or im more lazy then i thought and simsar mine run into the post and rail fencing anyway coz there all special

dont laugh but i just dragged the oh out with me to collect mine plus 4 others. and he has a bad back.

i just couldn't bear the thought of her out in the rain

I've just been up to the yard and dragged them all in, having made up an extra stable for one, as he has been sharing with one that is usually in at night to keep the one on box rest company. etc. But to be fair, all bar one came trotting up to me and jogged in. The one who didn't is the only native on the yard!

They went out at 6pm rugged, as they are mostly in during the day, but they have minimal shelter in their fields, so my friend and I decided it was kinder to get them in, and very grateful they were too (except for the New Forest Pony)!
 
Both mine are out without rugs (it's July guys.....), and I haven't even thought about them - they are horses. One is in a playpen because she's recovering from a KS operation, but I still think she'll be fine because she's a horse. The other is out in a large field, and I reckon she'll be fine because she's a horse too.
 
Ours are out, unrugged. If they were in a field with no natural or man made shelter then that would be different but they've got more than enough to eat and plenty of places to tuck themselves away out of the worst of it.

Its not silly at all and IMO people SHOULD be worried about leaving horses out in lightning as its extremely dangerous. I know of several people in my area who have lost horses to lightning strikes - I know its rare but it does happen. My post woman lost her horse 2 years ago, went out and just found him dead. Horrid. If Im around, I hold mine inside. If Im not then I worry like hell!
