is your horse out today or not ?

out.
the two fatter mares (well actually not fat at all but lami risk) have muzzles on.
all got fly rugs on and they have 6 trees in the field for shade if they are sensible enough to use it.

Mine are out. Our stables are terrible for feeling like furnaces in the hot weather! My black horse sweats after 5 minutes in there! They are better off out where they have shade by the trees.

My stables are lovely and cool in summer and warm in winter (mini barn on raised platform with windows to outside all the way round as well as huge front door, so horses are in during the day 8-5 and out the rest of the time. Fields have no natural shelter but madam has fly rug with belly and Himself has a big field shelter. She would have the other half of that, but can't yet as is lami prone and Himself needs to eat all the grass first.

The horses are extremely keen and grateful to be in during the hottest hours, Himself was flat out asleep when I last looked it, he didn't even notice the swallows fledging this morning from their nest above his head...:-))

Out pretty much 24/7. One who's come to join my "Fat Club" for a while is living on the yard with access to a stable - yard is a sun trap, but stables remain cool. The others are out in our rubbish summer field where there is a little natural shelter, but they seem happy out in the sun, grazing or sunbathing flat out. They do come in each day, anything from an hour during the week to several hours at the weekend, depending on what we're doing with them. They do enjoy a bit of stable time, but are always eager to go back out again, whatever the weather.

I've changed my mind.
My stable is hot, but after S got really peed off with the flies hacking early Sunday morning I decided to keep her in during the day and out at night.
I gave her an option - left the stable door open for a bit (supervised) to see if she headed for the field but she was happy in her stable munching on a wet haynet.
She is also putting a bit of weight on so a week of coming in to munch soaked haynets will do her no harm.
When I see her early evening after a day in the hot stable she is not sweaty (other than a bit round her udder) so it can't be too unbearable.

My lad is in during the day, out of the heat and off the grass for a while. Quite lucky in that his stable block is lovely and cool, plenty of air flow through with windows a the back of the stable too, which is lovely. Goes back out in the early evenings' complete with sunblock on the nose!

Mine are in during the day and will go out around 4pm with flysheets and flymasks, with lashings of Deet!

Livery rules means they are in at night all year round so out during the day today, she goes out pretty early and gets ridden in the evening. Even with boett on she's not come in sweaty and has plently of shelter

Both are out 24/7 during the summer. Unfortunately we only seem to have one fly rug and mask between them so they're having to take it in turns!

They have shade from a big tree but seem happy enough eating the fresh grass in the sun! Going to go up and give them a bath shortly.

Mine come in for about 4 hours during the day (bit longer when I am there all day), but are out the rest of the time.

They have natural shelter in the field, although prefer to stand in the middle grazing!

I've changed my mind (again!). Initially S was out 24/7 but was pretty narked with the flies last Sunday so for the last week she's been in during the day and out at night.
Twice I've got to her after work to find she's sweaty and hardly touched her hay (and very keen to go out as her stable is hot and stuffy). So next week she's back to going out 24/7. There's no natural shelter but at least there is a bit of a breeze in the field.
It's hard to know what to do for the best, poor girl.

Mine are out 24/7 for summer as well. The fields have a bit on natural shelter and also field shelters. I have fly rugs but had to take them off on Saturday as they were sweating up underneath them. Was a bit cooler yesterday so had to put them back on as they'd both been bitten to bits. Damned if you do and damned if you don't...

Mine are out - in really lucky with my field though. It's huge, thick high hedges on all sides and two lovely big trees all providing stacks of shade...but where do they stand? Right in the middle of the bloody field cooking themselves!

My paddock has no shelter so she has been coming in between 7.30-9.30an and going back out at 7pm
Our Yard only offers individual turnout which means you get your own, small paddock. Mine is starting to look over-grazed now too so tbh I'm glad to bring her in to rest it for a while and she gets to escape the midday sun and enjoy some haylage

My fella came in this morning at 745 and will be in till about 8 this evening. He had sore eyes and so keeping him out of th sun and away from the flies.. He snoozes all day and grazes at night- nocturnal horse now!
