(to think!!)....wtf have i done after buying a horse?

Dont get me wrong... the horse is FAB. But the past few days my confidence is drifting away with every tantrum the 4 year old has. Now before this week, id happily kick her on and verbally rollock her, which did the trick. Now shes attempting to spin and just spooking at everything.

Shes got fab potential... her paces are fantastic so dressage - she also has a good pop on her too. (She was bought as potential dressage horse - warmblood x)

Shes really lovely and theres no way on this planet am i selling... long term plan is to see how far we can get in the next 2 years in dressage and then possibly put her in foal.

Not sure the point of this post really... if anyone can offer me some good advice other than just "get on with it".....

?

How long have you had her?

Almost every horse will go through a 'teenage tantrum' phase shortly after you buy them, my lad did and I had a terrible time with him -riding and in the stable- I did start to think "feck it, I'm selling him, I'm too old to be coping with this nonsense", then I tried a bit of Join Up and it had a tremendous effect!

I've had him 18 months now and the worst of our problems are far behind us now and I laugh at myself for wanting to sell him!

just to update this;;;

i rode again tonight with the help of a friend who kicked me up the butt and told me to get on with it.
and i did.

mare was fab. went forward, in an outline. So the problem was! me. I just needed a kick up the bum!!!

The tantums may return but my confidence is back on the up after tonight...! so will handle it better :)

p.s her teeth andback are getting done soon too, her tack has been checked and her feet are being done this week :)

I don't mean her tack being checked for fit,as that's always common sense lol....I meant is the tack she's in now with you any different to what she'd have been used to previously to cause a 'what the ****?!' reaction or similar lol. :)

But glad you had a good ride!! :D

yeah - she had a GP - then i stuck with that - then switched to a dressage one.... which she goes better in!

Its just me... i need to just get on with it and be back to how i was - confident and ambitious (sp?).....

looking forward to what the next week brings :)
