Good grief!

Do you ever hum to yourself 'I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's son'?

I think I managed to get through an entire Pink Floyd album on my Walkman doing just one dog once, and there was still more to do!!

Now that is moulting ! I thought mine were bad but now feel quite kindly towards them. As a matter of interest what sort of comb/rake do you use?

[/ QUOTE ]

I use a normal Anti Tangle moulting comb to get the undercoat out then just a soft slicker brush for any loose hairs on the top.
A lot of people use furminators and yes while they get the undercoat out easily they ruin a double coat by splitting the hairs i`d rather just use some extra elbow grease and keep her coat looking good.
Thankfully hers comes out quite easily and is normally all out in just over a week, on the other hand my eldest male sibe likes to hold onto his undercoat for dear life and it takes a lot of work to get it out he can take over a month to fully blow his coat

Thanks. I have wondered about a furminator but was wary for the very reason you state. Guesss I'll have to carry on with the elbow grease. Its funny how their coats differ isn't it, Buffys mum used to go from being in full coat to having huge tufts and I could usually strip it all out in a week, whereas Buffy and the other 2 have a very gradual moult that lasts bloomin ages.

Aghhh how can you do that in the house?! *OCD kicks in*

I get precisely one brushful of hair out of Dax per day, plus a daily hoover; I still maintain that therein lies the advantage of a crossbreed. You must be mad to have three.

You do realise that she is a crossbreed of three double coated breeds though?

Just you what 'til she's a bit older, it'll only get worse

Being mostly husky I'm praying that's not the case, but I am prepared to eat my hat when I'm still hoovering in June.

I use a Furminator, a rake and a slicker brush.

I know people don't like the Furminator (MM - C HATES me using it

) but I haven't had too much breakage with B's double coat, I only use it on the croup, belly and thighs.

B looks his best ever ATM, but Bella looks shocking, she is in season too and she always looks crap at this time. Bathed her and didn't get the half of it out. I think the weather has really been taking them by surprise too.

Cyrus, has the cold winter had any effect - have they grown thicker coats?

I love Henry being clipped

LMAO - how good is your hoover Blackcob?

It's a Dyson Animal on a short, compacted carpet and it still sounds like it's dying when I go over the really hairy bits.

Denial is a wonderful thing.

Cyrus, did yours have short coats as pups? I keep comparing Dax to pictures of similar-aged husky pups and they look really furry in comparison. I managed to find a picture of her (pure) grandfather though and he also had a really short coat, dare I live in hope?

Spudlet I would say this winter yes they have especially the boys they have chosen to spend a lot more time outside than usual, we keep the heating well down in the house so that they are not uncomfortable but I think with this snow being around they`ve wanted to be out, they seem to sense it always out there sniffing the air.

BC how old is Dax and the moment and i`ll find pics of my lot at that age to give you some comparison
Loco and Diablos coats have definately thickened with age but Cyrus`s is still relatively short compared to most huskies.

Bless 'em

I think Henry has been growing his fur back more quickly but I can't really judge as he wasn't clipped last winter. It's interesting how they all adapt though, isn't it?

We have a lot of little bear-like ponies at work - we seem to have developed a huge marauding pack of Shetlands, all of which are as woolly as they come! There is also one pony with a very natty haircut - he is hairy apart from his legs from the knees down, and his coat is incredibly thick

She'll be six months this Saturday. She has no spare fuzz at all at the moment, not so much as a neck ruff, very odd!

Having just had a slightly more in-depth look at her pedigree wotsit also I am beginning to suspect that the bloke we got her from was telling us porkies, for whatever reason, as there appears to be an awful lot more husky in there than he let on. In fact, there appears to be no GSD at all. I am confused.

Reel me some of the GSD names if you have them in front of you? Or PM me, whatever! I can't see much in her, TBH.

I`m the same CC from the pics ive seen she looks like a working bred sibe, if there is mally in there shes taken more from the sibe side for definate

I'm just puzzled as to why the bloke would lie, he was rehoming his other dog at the same time and was advertising her as a pure husky (and asking for an awful lot of money for the privilege), although I must admit she was a lot more 'typical' of the breed in fuzziness and general looks.

Doesn't bother me as we never set out to get a pedigree dog anyway but I am very curious now. All of her vaccination records etc. list her as a British Inuit.

Sorry to hiijack, am scanning the docs now and will start a new thread.
