Since the pyo and being neutered Sandy is as itchy as anything! She's been given tablets by the vets and while they have alleviated it to some extent she still has days where she'll just chew and chew - she stops when she's told but as soon as our backs are turned she's back at it. It doesn't help that Yellow Dog will sit there and lick the red bits :rolleyes: Is there any spray we can put on her like an anti chew spray that won't irritate her skin more but will stop the pair of them licking at it? It's only a few stubborn patches now and with a couple of days 'peace' Im sure they would heal quickly.
 
Put an Elizabethan or Comfy collar on and separate the dogs if you have to, I would not have them within touching distance if the other dog is licking her too.

If you have to be on top of her all day, distracting her, do it.

What feed is she on? Might be too high in protein for her as an older dog, who additionally, is recuperating from an op.
 
She's on Beta Senior atm - this is liable to change and with proper dog food she's really fussy. Added to this she has vegetables (whatever was cooked for tea), joint supplement and some oil. She's mainly chewing at night. She's going back to the vets next wednesday for a check up so we'll ask for a review on her meds and see if we can borrow a collar from them. She's such a daft creature, not happy unless she's making us worry somehow :p
 
I thought about allergies but its a bit wierd its come on since being neutered. Will get the vet to do an allergy check tho. Mum rang them yesterday and she's picking up some shampoo this afternoon that should help too, theyre also taking a skin scraping to check for mange/mites tho I don't think that's what has caused it coz Yellow Dog is fine and they sleep in the same bed but best to check. She's not unhappy or anything, it's bothering us more than her! :)
 
Try some pure aloe vera gel on the red bits too. I know she is fine now but do try and get it nipped in the bud, prolonged itchiness can make them miserable.
My fella's allergies took about six months to develop into full blown horrible itching.
 
I didn't think of aloe - I have a giant plant sitting on my window ledge atm too :)

We are trying to find out whats causing it - she's being monitored by the vet and on pills etc but as it's still happening we're looking for other ideas :)
